  1. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
Most certainly does. In general use for supercharging long before turbos
    became common.

It was good to finally make it to a UKRM meet - even if it was the morning
after. Thanks to everyone I spoke to for being so friendly.

Oh and stalling as I left was deliberate; I assume you all realised that.

Yeah, go for it. I missed a lot of it because somebody else was talking to
me, although I don't recall who.

Mind you, I had drunk a whole pint by then, so I was obviously ratted.

    The ugly one.

    <thinks>

That doesn't help much, does it? To clarify; the ugly one with the red
Firestorm. And there was that comedy stall for the crowd, too.

I only turned up late Sunday morning, and left early Sunday afternoon but I
don't think we were formally introduced. Were you still in your tent?

    AndrewR says...
Whilst in her teens, back in the early 60s, this lady for some obscure
reason decided she wanted an Alfa Romeo 1750 with a supercharger. After
a long search and asking around she found one lying in the back of a
garage in Woburn in Bedfordshire. Every other weekend for 2 years she
would cycle, on a pushbike, from Nottingham to Woburn to badger the
owner into selling this Alfa to her, but every time she tried he turned
her away. We're talking over 100 miles each way, just to cajole someone
into selling an old banger of a car.

One weekend she cycled down as usual and the bloke's son was there. He
said his dad had told him to do something with the old car gathering
dust, but he couldn't be arsed to, so he offered it for sale. This young
lady did a deal and went to fetch a trailer to get it home. She called
on the services of a close friend of her's, Tom Wheatcroft, and his Land
Rover. This was in the days when Tom didn't yet own Donington Park race
circuit, all he owned was 2 old cars, a Landie and a trailer.

They arrived in Woburn, loaded the car onto the trailer, and paid the
man for a car that would one day be worth well over a million quid.

    She paid ...

    I'll bite.
Lemme guess. She's the one and only person who's ever really found a car
like that in a barn, buried under 6 feet of pigeon shit but only needed
a clean up and a fettling of the magneto points to burst into life first
swing of the starting handle on a tank of 40 year old petrol.

The old lady she bought it from was glad to give it to her for nothing,
since her dear departed husband would have liked her, mechanically
minded as she was, and how she and her husband used to tour Italy and
the Alps in it all during the 30s and met that nice Mister Hitler, and
really, when all's said and done, it's only an old car, after all, dear.

"Blowers" are superchargers and "Turbos" are, ermm, turbos.

Champ only says the term applies to both so he can justify his old
