thank you

  1. just wanted to say massive thanks to the two bikers who helped me on
the A3 today. had a rear wheel puncture at 50mph under the malden
turning flyover, and had a tumble along the road.

i've only been riding a week, so it's a bit of an event to have to deal
with so early, but the two guys (i think they were off duty policemen)
were really kind and got me and the bike safely away from the traffic.

i was quite shaken and i've got a few scrapes and bruises, but it could
    have been so much worse.

big thanks if you're reading this fellas (and i am humbled by the
    camaraderie amongst 2-wheelers out there)

    thank you

    Will

Ouch - tuff luck! What a horrible thing to happen.

I'm glad you weren't too hurt, but how did it happen? Front wheel
    blow out, back wheel?

it just started snaking, more and more. i had no idea what was
    happening (i'll know next time!).

tried brakes, clutch, accelerating (in no particular order!), but i
knew i was going over. then just slid for a while.

on closer inspection the back wheel was punctured, which kind of
    figured with hindsight.

my arms really ache where the muscles took the impact when i first
touched the ground, but the protective gloves, jacket, etc were
    fantastic.

the policeman said something along the lines of putting your weight
further forwards, but i'm not convinced I could have done much.

great guys to help me out though.

the one downer is that when a police patrol car turned up to cone it
off (there was nowhere to go as we were under a bridge) the rescue co
they called charged me 260 GBP to take me 15 miles to golders green.

You could. Ponder for a while the possible outcome if you had had the
presence of mind to pull a stoppie at that moment. No drama at all.

It makes you wonder about the injuries that would be incurred by the twits
who drive in t-shirt and jeans. I cringe just thinking about it!
Couldnt a breakdown service (AA, RAC?) have taken you home?

And some twit in a car would right into the back of him no doubt.

Fucking right. I frequently drive in Tshirt and jeans - I always wear
my helmet when I ride, though.

So have I - keeps you awake when knackered, quite effectively.

However - it is alleged that a shoeless driver could be nicked due to
being unwilling/able to sustain sufficient pressure on the brake pedal
    in an emergency.

How strange, if anything I'd say it gave me more feel and didn't make
using the pedals any more difficult. of course my car has power
everything... I wouldn't dream of doing so in say a series 1 landy.
