Thanks for the advice guys - I passed my das course. Now which bike to get?

Thanks for the advice from a few days ago.

So now I have had some time on the CBR or whatever it was (a Honda 500 with
ABS anyway), my little Cub 90 feels like a piece of plastic and I am
    thinking about what to buy.

    My thoughts:

    1. I go 20 mins twice a day to the tube station.
    2. The stability and grip of the big bike I used was nice and I like that
bit. Much better than the CG125 I used on the first three days of the
    course.
    3. Cub 90 gets blown about in the wind and has little power to keep out of
the way of the nut job drivers round here (SE London, the home of the
    uninsured).
    4. ABS sounds good should I ever need it.
    5. Although I did a geared test, I like automatics.
    6. I am a Yorkshireman and consequently don't like spending money - the Cub
uses £2 of petrol a week.

So, can anyone recommend some bikes that may suit me?

    Many thanks,

    Joe

    Suzuki's GSXR1000 K6 ticks all the boxes.

Is the ABS kept under the seat, or is it what the fairing is made of?

I've looked it up, and the only thing I can see that concerns me is the way
it appears to be an _extremely_ fast bike. I know it depends on how much gas
you give it, but is such a fast bike sensible after passing the test? My
mind is comparing it to passing the driving test and getting a Maserati.

Gas? All my bikes run on petrol.

and just hat is wrong with this? Other than a maserati is dog slow
compared to a number of very ordinary (by today's standards) bikes.

You need to read this group a LOT before you ask any questions. Only then
will you fully understand the enormity of your mistake.

Ping Whinging Courier (on here of course) as he's got a bike that'll do you
absolutely PERFECTLY for your teeth cutting period (and beyond). He's not a
Yorkshire man, thank ****, but he gets pissed as a fart in minutes.

The bike's a 450cc sit up straight and not 150mph capable thing.

And yes, I'm serious, Ping him.

    Yayy! Good work fella.
Do a search on Google Groups, and read the UKRM FAQ - this question's been
done to death over the years.
Except this bit - if you don't want gears, you're really limited to
scooters. The bigger ones are pretty nippy, but have a *lot* of plastics to
damage, and your used choice will be much more limited. Oh, and we'll have
to take the piss out of you.

Apparently I'm not snipping properly according to the helpful chap who also
responded to my post, so forgive me. I will read the faq etc.

Thanks and yes, it does meet them. It's just the thought of such a good
    machine I spose.

I don't get above 40 on my little commute, although that has a lot to do
with my current ride being low powered, and being in heavy traffic comprised
of a blend of uninsured foreign drivers and numptys (and lorries and buses
who are pretty good in all fairness).

    Thanks for being cryptic.

There's a word for people who try and keep the upper hand by telling people
they're doing something wrong, but won't say what it is in a meaningful way
to prevent the other person learning; I can't quite remember what it is.

Anyways I will read the faq etc and learn before I post here again; don't
bother to reply to this post cos I won't read it.

I can't be arsed with flame wars and have better things to do.

    Laters,

    exactly cryptic is it?

****, ginged by a **** off slow update.

Anyone else having a slow connection "thing" with NTL lately, or is it just
my 'puter, coz apart from the slow updating, it keeps altering it's own
    clock?

Well, you see, Joe's a shy little flower, and doesn't like people not
    saying 'please' and 'thank you'.

You bully, you've probably breached his human rights.
    Only to the hard-of-thinking.

Well that's a lot like myself really. Shy, retiring and usually very polite.
Never a bully, I just gave him a little nudge. **** all like *I* got when I
fucked up with my first posts here. I'm still waiting for the new arsehole I
got to grow hairs on it.
Perzackerly. Anyway, I hope he's not so upset he packs his bags.
