For your French film recommendations, here they are:

    Micmacs: Loved it, brilliant
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1149361/

    Shut Up!: Very funny
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0310203/

Tatie Danielle: Bit odd, watchable though, not quite on the spot
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100747/

Science of Sleep: Very very good
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0354899/

I Do: Another great French comedy
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478724/

Also recommend Priceless which we'd already seen.

Hmmm, 646 films watched on our Blockbuster deal. We'd get out more if we
    had a babysitter.

talking of foreign films, have you seen the DVD of "Hausu" that was re-
    issued earlier this year?

Totally fucking beyond hatstand - sort of "Scooby Doo -v- The
    Exorcist"

    No, I haven't.
Excellent. Added to Lovefilm. It'll also make a nice cleanser to remove
the stench of some truly shite Hollywood crap the other half's had me
watching recently. Jesus, I knew 2012 was supposed to be bad but I had
    no idea...

    Cheers.

I would advise you not to watch it whilst under the influence of
anything vaguely hallucinegenic - you might cause some sort of reality
    dysfunction.

And don't expect anything approaching what might even vaguely be
    termed "production values".

Watching it now - 20 minutes in and the've just arrived at the house.

So far it's been like watching Beyond the Valley of the Dolls with the
Banana Splits playing Japanese schoolgirls dressed as sailors.

    When does it get weird?

I think your values of "weird" are off the scale.

there are no eels in it.

    Oh.

54 minutes in and I have no idea, beyond the general plot outline, what
the **** is going on. I don't even know who's who anymore.

Aaaaand there it is, the obligatory reference to unwashed schoolgirl
    knickers.

    Right, back to the confusion...

I don't care. Any film that has a line spoken by a Japanese sailor-
suited schoolgirl along the lines of "I need to cool down my melons"
is a winner in my book.

I was utterly baffled by the end of it. Very odd.

I downloaded Visitor Q at the same time. That should round the weekend
    off nicely.

Tikashi Miike's stuff is....sort of enjoyable, but never quite lives
up to the hype. Visitor Q is just deliberately tasteless.

His best work is definitely The Happiness of the Katakuris.

It was an FX show reel ruined by the most dreadful story.

I wonder if there's a private rule in Hollywood where it states that no
film is allowed to have excellent FX *and* an excellent script?

I watched that the other week. After a while it got somewhat boring as
    they ran out of ideas.
