To the **** who knocked my bike on its side in the road outside my flat
and didn't bother leaving any note to either apologise or give me some
details of where to send the bill.

I know you won't be reading this, but grrrrrrr.

PS. Anyone know off-hand how much a RHS mirror for a '98 b12 is going
    to set me back?

This isn't going to help one bit, but... a couple of months ago my
daughter, having recently passed her car test, reversed the 'Shite Old
Fiesta' into another car during a failed reverse parking manouver.
There was no damage done to the SOF but there was discernable damage
to the other vehicle. As it happens it was pissing with rain at the
time and no one witnessed the incedent. So what would you have done?

    Yes, so would I, probably.

But she didn't, she went to great lengths to trace the owner of the
damaged car, admitted what she'd done and swapped insurance detaills.

When she told me what had happened ( I was funding the car +
insurance) I was kind of proud that she had actually done the 'right
thing' but fucking pisssed that I had to pay for it.

It is a bugger, isn't it. Happened to my bandit 3 times in two weeks
    last year....
Now, as it happens, I *may* be able to help you there. I have in my
posession a right hand mirror from my '98 B6, and if it's a match, I'm
sure we can come to an arrangement.

It's in good nick, with a few marks on the stalk.

    e-mail me if you're interested.

It's an improvement, I'll say that. Last incident involving a bike outside
my bike resulted in a total loss theft claim and a loss of NCB. Fortunately
the right hand bar went down a drain so the brake lever escaped the almost
    inevitable.

Kudos to the bloke from upstairs who, although I've never seen him before,
came and knocked on my door to let me know it was laying on its side and
gave me a hand lifting it up.
Or maybe he did it. Who knows!
If someone in the know can give me a positive ID, and we can come to
some arrangement re: delivery, then it sounds like a possible winner.

Well, ok, and her'es the truth

If it was a car I'd bumped, I'd **** off sharpish.
If it was a bike, I'd own up. Dunno why.
I'd not go to great lengths though. Post-it note, sellotape, plastic bag
and phone number, and if I never got a call I'd leave it at that.

It'd have to be over a grand before I'd even consider involving insurance
though. (He says, having been there and done that)

Some fucker did that to my CBR while I was taking a bird out for dinner in
Greenwich three or four years ago. Never bothered getting it fixed,
despite all the plastics on the LHS and the clutch lever, mirror and
indicator all being bent and fucked.
Not a lot, probably. I dunno.

Fannily enarf, me too. Prolly summat to do with the fact that cars are
(up to a point) designed to withstand the odd knock and bump, bikes ain't.

Chances are, you clonk a bike, it goes down, damage is done. Clonk a car,
chances are it'll have no more than a smear of black bumper on its paint.

    Bastards.

In a (very limited) sense, this is where having an alarm fitted helps;[1]
nudge or knock a (properly) alarmed bike and you're alerted to it,
instantly, I know that to be the case with the -12R.

Of course, have an alarm fitted by a shaved chimp and the fucking thing'll
drive you and the neighbours scatty with falses.

[1] Cue the alarm-nazis and their myriad reasons why alarms are A Bad
    Idea(tm).

Part of my strategy for getting a bandit was that it has no plastic as such
to **** up, and I was near certain that somebody would knock it over at
some point, even if that somebody wasn't me.

I don't usually mind being proved right, but...

As a deterrent to theft they do seem to be piss all use but they are
dead handy for getting the insurance premiums down to financeable

I've just had a look in the Banditmania catalogue and they seem to make
no distinction between B6 and B12 when it comes to mirrors.

The mirror I have is round, btw.

I don't have a digital camers, but if I take it to work tommorrow, I
could get a pic posted somewhere.

Aye, I've checked and it seems they have the same, along with a whole
host of others. Generic mirrors, so to speak.

Looking at it, it seems all I actually need is the middle link section
between the bar clamp and the mirror assembly.

Well, there's no point me splitting it, as I've no use for the rest of
it. TBH I've no use for any of it, but I kept it incase I came across
someone who needed one... You can get a pattern pair for not much more
that £30 + postage, I think, so offer me a tenner to cover postage and a
drink, e-mail me your address and it's yours.
