That new tiny Honda...

Right, my SO has just passed her test (restricted to 33bhp for two years though) and quite likes the
look of the new Honda CBR125. Went to look at one today and the bloody thing is tiny with a back
wheel like a pram wheel. It was sat next to an NSR125 (the model it replaces) and even looked small
    comared to that.

Anyway, has anyone seen any reviews of it? I know MCN have one in next week's issue, I just wondered
if anyone here has read one, or even been on the bike.

    Cheers.

    How nice.

How about you passing one of your own and cutting your line length down
    to manageable proportions.
    A 33 brake 125? Wow!!.

Why ride a 125cc bike when there are loads of other bikes available? It
    doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, I imagine I should recommend that an eight and a half stone girl who has just passed her test
    gets an R1...

Because she likes the size / weight / looks and wants to get her confidence up. I suggested a 400
but she tried a CBR and ZXR and didn't like the riding position.

Does she really want a sports tourer?

A new ZX-10R would be a _much_ better choice - the size of a 600, the weight
of a 600 and the power of a 600[1]. What could be better.

[1] And another 600 as well.

My former next-door neighbour bought am NSR125 after passing his DAS test
for the same reasons; getting his confidence up, etc.

It took him 6 months to get completely bored with it and trade it in for a
    CBR6, at a sizeable loss.

I would strongly suggest that she tries a bit harder to find a 400 that she
likes, the chances are that it will keep her happy for a lot longer.

Exactly, 125cc bikes are ok for popping round town, going to the local
shop and getting chips from the local chippy. When going further, you will
quickly find that you will need to keep the throttle nailed to the stop or
you'll get overtaken by everything. You will get overtaken by everything
up hills, or when there is a bit of a head wind.

A 125 imho is a danger on the motorway too.
I thought that those went "ring ding ding... bang", quite often.
Something like a Honda CB1 maybe?

Don't go for the CBR125, seriously, especially if you have a full licence.

It's a 4 stroke 125, it makes no more than 13bhp, she will be mind numbingly
bored of it after 23 seconds.

As you said, the bike is tiny with a rediculous back wheel - it was designed
for learners to replace the NSR125 because of the new emission laws, go for
the NSR if you must have something like that, that makes about 28bhp
    derestricted.

What's wrong with something like a 400, or getting a 600 restricted? Buying
a second hand 400 or 600 will probably be cheaper than buying the CBR 125.

    Regards

You're hoping, sunshine. It'd blow itself to bits in next to no time
with that kind of power on tap. NSRs aren't known for their reliability
when standard, let alone when derestricted. Call it about 20BHP and
    you're closer to the mark.

    Meh - 20bhp then.

Still a darn sight better than 13bhp.

    In full race form, yes.
I've ridden a restricted one and that was fun (I was 18 mind so any
bike was fun[1]). A derestricted one should be a right laugh.

[1] Come to think of it, any bike still is.

My girlfriend's NSR 125 although not that fast in many opinions, has made
the difference for her and thats all that matters, she is building up
confidence at slow speeds and is turning out to be a very good rider, with a
view to getting a CBR 600 F in the near future. I saw one of those CBR 125's
today and it looks stupid and is powerless, I recommend a NSR 125 without
reservation to build up some skills and confidence for any new rider.

I would have thought that the CGR125 was just as uncompromising.

Excellent bike, I'd heartily recommend a CB400 SuperFour as well.

Used 'em both for work and they never let me down. I had many regular
trips to J8 on M1 from London on them on both and the SF took me to
    N.Ireland and back without fuss!
