So, in the unlikely event that someone were to actually get one's arse
in gear to visit for, say, part of MGP practice week, am I right in
thinking that it woud be easier to find accomodation and get a ferry
crossing at a decent hour/price? Would it be less crowded then as
well, compared to race week? I'm working on the theory that the bikes
zinging past will be just as spectacular as the actual race. Or maybe
compromise and stay for the first day of racing.

Also, I tried looking at the practice times and they seemed to only be
for about 40-50 minutes: is this the total 'track in use' time or just
the pit lane start period? I assume that the roads are closed for
rather longer than that, but how long?

If you don't stay for the first race you could still hang on for the
Manx Two Day Trial, though finding accommodation free beyond the Friday
of Practice week might be tricky.

I preferred the Manx. The Fuckwit on the Road quotient was much lower and
the bikes being ridden by other tourists were much more interesting.

That said, the TT does have a unique buzz going and is also well worth the
visit *if* one can take steps to avoid the travel insanity and being treated
    like a wooly jumper.
