Yesterday I had 2 new Maxxis[1] Barracuda[2] tyres fitted to the CB250RS, at less than 70 quid for the pair fitted. [1] Another name for Cheng Shin. [2] Excellent budget sports tyres for older small bikes. They stick like shit to a blanket on stuff like RDs and stuff like my CB, which completely dispels the myth of Cheng Shin being crap tyres. -- Lozzo ZZR1100D, GPZ500S, CBCBCB750RSRSRS BOTAFOT#57/70a, BOTAFOF#57, two#49, MIB#22, TCP#7, BONY#9, ANORAK#9, DIAABTCOD#14, UKRMT5BB, IBW#013, MIRTTH#15a/16, BotToS#8, GP#2, SBS#10, SH#3, DFV#14, KoBV#3. Not a lot wrong with cooking Cheng Shins either IMHO, certainly for the mundane pottering about sort of riding. Not bing V rated might give the more righteous among us a fit of the vapours, but at less than £90 a pair fitted on the XJ my conscience can live with that. Especially as there's nowhere I can exceed 140 mph any way. Unless I chuck the bike off a cliff......
I've ridden on Barracudas. For SOBs, they're fine. Even for more modern but pedestrian stuff like Diversions. I still maintain that Double Coin are the worst tyres made on the planet.
The Older Gentleman wibbled incoherently I'll see your Double Coin, and raise you the Swallow that I had removed from the rear of the CB. It slid at anything further than 10 deg from vertical.....in the dry -- Lozzo ZZR1100D, GPZ500S, CBCBCB750RSRSRS BOTAFOT#57/70a, BOTAFOF#57, two#49, MIB#22, TCP#7, BONY#9, ANORAK#9, DIAABTCOD#14, UKRMT5BB, IBW#013, MIRTTH#15a/16, BotToS#8, GP#2, SBS#10, SH#3, DFV#14, KoBV#3. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Lozzo said: Heh, "Slip on - Slip off" Maybe it's because they changed the name ;-)
They certainly used to be - no myth. Kenda were another one. I had a rear Kenda with a strange zigzag tread *across* the width of it. Fine in the dry, but aquaplaned like a pig on ice. The next Kenda I bought had a totally different tread - more like an Arrowmax - and it was ok. I'll try a set of these Maxxis when I'm needing rubber and see how they suit. -- Dave GS 850 x2 / SE 6a SbS#6? DIAABTCOD#16 APOSTLE#16? FUB#3 FUB KotL OSOS#12? UKRMMA#19
Hung Ha Swallow? .... shudder -- Steve Parry http://www.gwynfryn.co.uk http://wrexhamseals.tripod.com
Steve Parry wrote Yes. for 5 dorrah Hung Ha spit, for 10 dorrah she swallow. I finish now or you want change to 20 dorrah?
sweller wibbled incoherently Not in the Barracuda range. There is a Cheng Shin C155 rear pattern available in that size, but it's more likely to be an old style non- grippy type, IYSWIM. -- Lozzo ZZR1100D, GPZ500S, CB250RS x3. I'm pretty sure even the best Bridgestones would be a pig on ice if not necessarily aquaplaning.. But I know what you mean... I've had Kendas in the past. They don't *do* winter.
Only on the rear? For the ultimate experience in fally-off technology, try 2 Swallow 3.00 x 10s. Both fitted to a Vespa Primavera (125cc small frame) that I owned when I was 18 or so. Pink, it was. Bright pink.
