Just been thinking about this weekend and looking at Google Maps
    Streetview.

Anderson looks like a dump with a roundabout in the middle. Is
it? Where do the youth of Anderson go on a Friday night?

There is a pub in Bass, but the review is "The ambiance is
terrible, the live entertainment was awful. The food was appalling. We
    had to wait for ages for our food to come out. Some meals were burnt;
others were stone cold then re heated in a microwave. The serving
    sizes were not ..." etc.

Has anybody been there? Is it a good place to visit? Any tips?

Yeah, reviews are generally one person's opinion. The place is going to
be full of interlopers on a big race weekend anyway, so a review based
on the normal state of affairs probably isn't valid, at least as far as
the ambiance goes. Most people go into the centre of Cowes on Friday
night. If you're not drinking no reason why you can't ride in, if
you're staying off the island. Anderson and Bass are little more than
names on the map at any other time of the year. Alternatively you could
    try Kilcunda or San Remo.

The RSL club do a halfway decent meal and they are geared up for large
groups so the service doesn't suffer much on superbike weekend.

Anderson is just a locality, and the roundabout is the biggest thing
there. Thers is an "old wares" "Bargain" shop but it's best avoided
unless you are into disappointment (or cheap asian imports).

We have a holiday house situated such that the Bass Pub is out "local".
The reviewer must have been there on a really busy night and with a
bad temper. It's got classic pub fare, prepared well and at reasonable
prices. The entertainment has always been quite good quality, even if
the style doesn't suit everyone's taste. I've yet to see a string
quartet there. The Bass Op Shop is really handy when you discover you
should have bought a warm jumper.

For better food nearby, there is a cafe/bar set on a vineyard a bout a k
down the Corinella road, just past the school. They do excellent
deli-style meals. (but was closed for renovations last time I checked.)

Kilcunda pub has good food at full price, but suffers when there's a
crowd. Dalyston pub used to have reasonable cheap food but has gone
downhill. Archies creek is not far fro there and had good food and an
interesting atmosphere last time I was there.

The pubs at San Remo do good food, and can handle a crowd.

Don't even slow down as you pass the "General Store" on the Philip
Island road. Its "Take Away" should have been taken away years ago.

    Cowes seems to cope.

I won't be there this year. A significant person has a birthday ending
    in a zero.

    I hear it's 10.5% better than the A380!
