the benefits of cleaning

  1. the coating of deceased exoskeletal creatures had passed the point of
being an indicator or riding and was now pointing to neglect. it was
also getting difficult to see thru the windscreen. so while the
aesthetic of yellow bug guts splashed randomly on green metal flake does
have a sense of the deconstructionist school, this was not a candidate
for the museum, but the wash bucket.

the old trick of using only hot water and letting the rags soak on the
unwanted splats worked its usual wonders of less labor and no harsh
chemicals and within the hour it was down to the wheels and lower
running gear. wiped the rear rim, moved the bike to get to the part of
the wheel that was behind the saddle bag, and.....
    surprise!
hmmm, i don't remember any MZ4 Metzeler having a groove down the middle
of the rear. in fact, i don't remember it having a straight groove on
it anywhere. it's kind of shiny in that groove too and...... uh
    oh......

rode that one down to the cords. i guess the tread wear indicators
    weren't kidding.

‘‘ Say Another Viewer) at a boy, get after it ever now and
then. AV, I have never washed my Bikes at Car Washes, using that high
powered water pressure.. Sounds like you don't either, huh? I've got a
friend, that his seat was damaged by that powereful spraying nozzle, I
guess he gotta a lil' close, eh!
I, like you mentioned, don't use glass cleaners on my Shield either.
Another friend's shield has gotten pretty dull using chem stuff, and we
got em' bout the same time, and mine is chrystal clear, (well
    almost,<g>) good topic. (bjay)

yeah, got'em on the Venture and I am getting good handling in all
weather conditions and pretty decent wear too. Now if only they made
white walls in a size that would fit the Venture they would be
    perfect.

  4. Karnak the Magnificent predicts a set of MZ6 in my future. I've been
very happy with the handling of the MZ4s in every imaginal weather
condition and road surface and the MZ6 is the nifty upgraded tire. the
MZ 4 is still available but being discontinued and replaced by the 6. I
pondered the Metz 880s for mileage consideration but a pal who rides the
living begeejus out of his K12 LT didn't like their traction, or lack
thereof, for his riding style. Since the envelope does get pressed from
time to time, i'll opt for traction and try the MZ6.
we shall see (said the blind man)......

  5. Avons are supposed to be cool for traction but burn off quickly. Haven't
tried them myself, generally been metzeler and michelins for the bigger
streetbikes around here with IRC GP110 dual purpose on the 175.
