How can a video NOT be interpreted as independent evidence?
Presumably it would be checked for any tampering first, then it would be
seen as a pure and contemporaneous report.

Reading between the lines, it's evidence of aggressive driving they're
looking for, and that's not given by the video. Nor would it be clear
from that who started the argument, so using it to try and prosecute
for 'threatening behaviour' would still rely on one person's word
    against the other's.

Chain of evidence innit. We had to go to great lengths to use video
recordings, audio recordings, or even logged noise levels as evidence to
show that they were just that. Loads of paperwork to prove that the
material was original or a certified true copy. Date and time stamped
naturally. I suppose the sort of space age techniques you see in films
might be used to check for 'tampering', but the defence only have to
employ a clued up tech savvy brief to cast enough doubt on a home made
video to convince the magistrates. I suspect the CPS CBA to get in to
    that.

I don't mind them jumping red lights. It means they all **** off before
the light goes amber and the MotoGP stars. Last thing I want to have to
do is weave round a bunch of lycra-clad eco-warriors wobblingg away from
    the line.

  6. This was prompted by a report currently running on BBC TV news of a
cyclist in hounslow. **** knows why but I cannot find a single mention of
it on the main Beeb web site.

Nor can I find any mention of the eradication of wild mink from certain
parts of Scotland, which was also in the news this morning.

Are they trying to hide something from us?

Worst I found for this was doing a series of traflight GPs in some
Italian city (Genoa, IIRC) where thousands of scooters would filter
around everything and place themselves in front of the white line. Of
course (I was on the gixxer) I'd be through them like a shot as soon
as it went green, but then approaching the next red I'd slow down well
in advance and they'd all come screaming past again, slamming on their
brakes to stop at the red, before repeating for the next set.

They were having fun though, so I guess I shouldn't be too critical of
    them.

Heh. I saw three bicycle-on-bicycle crashes on last year's commutuing
runs, two caused by one twat jumping the lights and one by someone
riding the wrong way round a bollard and onto a zebra crossing just as
the second bicycle dived onto the crossing from the pavement

And the seconds-after aftermath of one who hit some woman on a
crossing and just fucked off, leaving her lying on the ground
    surrounded by burst shopping bags.

The other night I was stopped at a pelican crossing and a cyclist just
went merrily through on red. Unfortunately for him there was a police
panda car one behind in the queue. Could see the blues flashing away 30
seconds after the lights turned green and they caught up with him. I did
debate whether they would pull him but it was a bit too blatant to
    ignore really.

I copped some flak from the pedal brigade, nearly ten years ago,
when I recounted how, when crossing a sidestreet on a green light with a
herd of other shoppers along Oxford Street, some cyclist came screaming
across the intersection and through the throng of pedestrians whilst
furiously ringing his bell. At this point the crossing was totally
covered in peds going both ways and he was coming right at me. So, I
instinctively dipped my shoulder and did a good job of deflecting him
away. He sprawled to the ground 3 or 4 metres past the crossing and got
up all foully-mouthed. Like the rest of the herd I walked on, ignoring
    him. Well, grinning slightly...
