Because the car in front stopped quite suddenly & the car coming up on
his left meant he couldn't pull out. Going right would've been dodgy
as the other car in front looked like it was turning right.

Because he didn't know if he was clear behind (IYKWIM): you can see him
checking his mirrors, both sides, looking for somewhere to go.

He did well to a) stand up and b) not lump the driver.

Yebbut, in that kind of filtering/riding, i dont use my mirrors, i have a
fucking good look about, he barely glances in his mirrors, mind you easy for
    me to say etc.

Yes and yes, the car on the right turned at the intersection, but he
may have meant to turn left ahead and there was traffic to the left.
    +1

Either way, i just dont think he was looking enough, bearing in mind he had
a helmet cam on, but she rammed him good & proper.

No excuses etc, but if i'm in that kind of traffic i'm looking with my eyes,
not mirrors, wont stop someone arse ending you at lights etc, but in
moderatly moving traffic i want to know who's where..

Car in front indicating left, vehicle in the left lane overtaking.

You sure? It looks like the car in front just had one brake light. Well, it
did until the bike hit the car.

I'm not sure he was looking to make a quick getaway. I think he was too close
to the vehicle in front to do anything and it was too short a time before
he got lamped by the motor behind.
    Quite.

Hmm, not sure I'd go for that. I tend to look behind me when stopping suddenly,
but in this instance I don't think he could have done much.
True. It helped me out some years ago when I stopped safely at a set of lights,
only to see an artic barreling down on me in my mirrors. I moved over to the
right just in time for him to shoot through the red lights (at least a second
or so after they'd gone red). Otherwise I'd have ended up as a nice hood
    ornament.

You may be right, but then it's a bit of a poser as to why the car
stopped where it did. It looked like an indicator to me.

Sooooo... you think the non-flashing brake light was an indicator, &
you didn't see the car stopped in the road in front of the one the
bike crashed into. I'm guessing you passed your test before the new
    hazard perception module was added.

Well of course, do I look like a born again newbie?

Yeah, you can see it after the accident. it is a duff brake light.
Although why the car in front stopped is still a bit odd.
