Hi, my poor track bike ('97 CBR600F) went for a sideways somersault
yesterday at Oran Park and isn't looking so good. Don't know if she is
salvagable yet. (The rider, one of my wife's friends, is sporting a broken
thumb and sprained ankle, but is otherwise OK).

I've heard there is some guy in Western Sydney who can straighten frames and
forks - Alderman? Aldershot? Aldersomething? Anyone know his details?

Also, anyone got any recommendations for people in the Sydney area who can
    decrinkle a fuel tank?

Also, who are the decent wreckers in Sydney? I need a couple of hundred
    parts...

    Cheers Manning

  2. Correction; your wife's friend needs a couple of hundred parts.

The frame-straightening bloke is Laurie Alderton. He's out at Smithfield.
Pre-99 CBR600's have steel frames, making them some orders of magnitude more
recoverable after a big stack, which is handy.

The money it would take to bash and pull the tank straight again is better
    spent just buying a less-thoroughly hammered tank from a wrecker. It's a
track bike, it values multiple spares over perfect components without a
    fallback, which bring us to...

....Metropolitan Motorcycle Spares are the biggest and, if they like the look
    of you, the cheapest.
Eastern Creek Motorcycle Wreckers are trendy bitches and probably won't
stock anything for a bike made as long ago as 1997.
A1 Road&Race in Arncliffe used to be cool, but they've changed hands since
    I've last dealt with them.
Southwestern MC Wreckers in Warwick Farm are likely to be quite cheap, too.
Sydney M/C Wreckers in Alexandria tend to be on the expensive side.
Brisons in Rydalmere and All-Sun (are they still) in Hornsby, I've never
dealt with, but the few times I rang them, seemed like a decent bunch.

If you wish to repay this gush of information, you can put me onto an
orthopedic surgeon who isn't a condescending, arrogant wanker.

Your wife's mate sounds like a highly competent wrecker.

Will do, as soon as I find the tooth fairy and the leprechaun who's hiding
all that gold. (Why do you think I left the medical profession?)

Seriously though, thanks heaps IK. (Have you sold that Spada yet?)

Sadly, the girl in question would need a few years to get the money
together, she is on a very low wage and can't afford much. The poor girl is
absolutely devastated about the damage she's done, and I'm sure she'll give
me whatever she can manage, although I suspect it won't be much. She's
currently losing money from not working anyway.

I don't believe you should lend a track bike (or anything else) without
being prepared to accept the consequences, and I knew beforehand that if
anything happened, she would not be in any position to make recompense. So I
have no-one else to blame, and in the same situation I'd do it all over
again. The $4K I am down is not fun, but far from devastating either.

Generally I think acts of generosity eventually get rewarded. Maybe I'm
wrong and I'm just a sucker, I'll find out one day.

  8. Awww, come on Marko, there's a pretty broad line between arsehole and
"yeah, you can borrow my bike to go racing on and if you crash I won't
be selling your internal organs to pay for the damage if you can't cover
    it"...

big (says the guy who's Spada was crashed by _lots_ of people...)

And besides - what would IK's organs be worth anyway? Probably not enough to
get a decent set of levers...

  10. I dunno, I'd pay you the price of a set of levers just to see his face
when he wakes up in the bathtub full of ice...

Check a Dr McGilvray at Hornsby Sport Medicine 99871311

I believe he's an orthopod, I had him do work on my ankle which wasn't
broken, just Not Happy in a very painful can't-walk way, and he was good.
If he's not a sawbones he will no doubt know someone who can saw your
    bones.

Bit of a trot from you though.

    Nah, they're based in Tasmania.

(Personally, I think it's irresponsible to _borrow_ a bike you
can't pay for / pay the insurance excess of, but then what would
    I know?)
