I've had enough of the SV, so it's got to go.

Whenever I go for a ride, I have to decide between a rinky-dink little
timebomb or a diesel-powered tractor and the SV loses every single time.
It's had so little use (5 miles in as many months) that if it weren't
for the RGV I'd be in antonye or simonk territory. The battery barely
had enough grunt to turn it over on Monday and if that's not a sign of
    under-use I don't know what is.

So, in the grand darsy style, what to get? It's meant to be my
"reliable" bike, suitable for racking up some distance (eg. French runs)
but I'd prefer something rather less rubbish than the SV. A year's NCB
means insurance is rather more reasonable than it once was though litre
bikes are still rather more than I'm prepared to spunk up the wall on an
    annual basis.

I was still tempted by a Daytona, but try as I might I just can't get
over the fact that they're so fucking ugly, so that's off the list.

Current thinking is maybe a ~ K3 GSXR750, but I'm open to suggestions.

    So, the floor is open...

You seem to like your 250, so why not carry on down the same lines and
go for one of the newer styled 600's.. a 2004 ZX636-B1H should fit
    the bill nicely.

Cheeky ****! I'll have you know that the 748 actually broke cover on
sunday and actually got ridden for a good 50 miles, even in the rain!

Which reminds me that the new Ohlins shock really does need setting up
though as it was a bit wallowy!

I even gave it a clean to get rid of all the dirt off it when I got
    home.
If it was me, I'd go for something a bit older where you're going to
get more for your money. The K3 sounds ideal because it's now 5? years
old and had plenty of revisions, so the "power ranger" crowd won't
touch them and you should get a bargain. It'll also have plenty of
power, especially compare to the RGV and SV. The 750 was also a
bit of a forgotten bike unlike the 600 and 1000.

    But what do I know!

See you've already done the homework. If you want a sub litre sprotbike it
    doesn't get any better than a recent Gixxer 750. I see K3's under 3k and K4
    around 4k.

Or you could buy Champs 600 and a suitable frame/V5 from a breaker.

Quite. They're cheap as chips, plenty quick and the upgrade - including
insurance hike - after selling the SV privately would leave me plenty of
    change from a grand.

Nah, if I want a peaky kids' bike then I already have the RGV, no need
    for a 600.

You and darsy seem to have the pipe & slippers options sewn up. Maybe
    not, eh?

    Black.

Everyone knows black Tigers are übergay, and what a joyful experience it is
to ride back home with one's new bike across Spain and France.

    Try the Hog ploy.

Take the money out of the bank and stuff it into a brown paper envelope.
Keep it hanging around your person. Look at adverts and bike showrooms every
    day.
All prevarication evaporates PDQ and the sight of a large pile of 20's gets
long suffering sellers pawing at you knees, despite cutting his throat for
    another £250 off.

Could do, though K3s start around 3k, K4s around 4.5k, which is quite a
    jump.

The K6or7 in black with the shortie exhaust is about the best looking bike
    to come out of Japan.
