I imported my 550/4 from Ireland and there was no tax and very little
paperwork: importing *used* bikes costs nothing.

    Is this a thread hijack?

Champs has never been registered. Therefore tax has never been paid. I think
you have to play catch up if you now put it on the road.

NI <> UK is as simple as Scotland <> England they just have different number
plate formats. RoI is different of course.

But only if they've been sold tax-paid in the country of origin. With
no previous registration and presumably no original bill of sale, that
    may not be the case.

    Hijacker? Moi?
I saw the bit about `import' and `purchased in Ireland' and thought
it was about importing from Ireland.

I tuck it behind the mauve fairing on my black and blue bike.

Congratulations, you've managed to suggest two bikes ruled out earlier
in the thread, one of which is quoted above in the original post.

Triumph. Minging. The two words kinda go hand-in-hand.

Really? Oh well I guess you didn't notice the different style/shape of
the Daytona over the years. But I won't let your blinkered view bother
me. I rather like the 98 Daytona. As I was posting from Google earlier
it's a wonder that I saw any of the thread at all.

Also check the definition of 'new' vehicle as regards import from
another EC country for VAT purposes. Even if it is already registered,
if the mileage is very low it is still considered new.

"NMT (New Means of Transport) vehicles are defined by HMRC as
originating from within the EU and are either less than six months old
or have travelled less than 6,000 kms (3,750m)[1]"

Not an insurmountable obstacle perhaps. Has it even got a speedo I
wonder? No bill of sale showing a VIN , date and mileage on purchase
    might be a bigger one.

I did, and they were all ugly, improving slightly over time but never
    exactly appealing.

Er, what's to possibly stop you just making this up?

The last of the Daytonas looked like a slightly less (fewer?) pointy
    version of your SV.

They looked alright at the front but not so good from the rear, and I
    never liked the single-sided swinger.

Shame really, cos the 675 is easier on the eye than a bucket of Optrex.
