  2. That asteroid movie from few years back did, so that means it's better.

    IK,
number #4876 in line to peg waste bricks at a prone, restrained Roland
    Emmerich.

  3. I'm not going to bother seeing that movie. It looks like another American
disaster movie with all the "we love America" sentiment thrown in. I suppose
it has the usual Flag waving rubbish at the end of the film. Even movies
like The Ghostbusters did that, and ID4. I am starting to hate yank movies
more and more. Too much bloody patriotism for me...

Visually impressive but utterly predictable, and all very American, with the
    predictable Hollywood ending.

meaning no story line and all special effects? which is 90% of movies
    now
which is 90% of movies in the last 10 yrs
Which is every movie in the last 15 yrs.

True. Saw the shorts to the new Matt Damon flick "Bourne Supremacy" due
out in August IIRC. If it's along the same lines as the original "Bourne
Identity" it should be good. IMHO "The Bourne Identity" was one of the
    10% you alluded to.

Of course you'll probably disagree with coz I ride a bike bigger than
    600cc....meh. ;)

Which one? Deep Throat...err Impact, or Armageddon? They both had bikes,
they both sucked, but not as much as Water World. What is it with yanks
    and their obsession with post-apocalyptic,
    but-it's-ok-America-saves-the-world movies??

  9. Um, yeah! And another thing; why do all these French movies keep on being
set in France, huh?!? What's up with that?

(on that note, last week, SBS showed a Hong Kong gunplay movie in which the
main on-screen language was Japanese... I found that pretty significant)

    IK,
who remembers watching a Russian take on the Robin Hood story once upon a
    time.

The one that really bugs me is in Independance Day where the yanks hatch their plan to take out the
aliens and send word out around the world. Some pommy officer gets told "It's the Americans....They
want to organise a counter offensive". Pom says "Well it's about time! What do they plan to do?"

Bloody slack-jawed Yanks have been sitting on their arses whilst we've been waiting for them to save
    the world. :-/

Sheesh, what kind of a vegetable of a lowbrow-action-movie-connoisseur do
    you take me for?

"Shiri" was on a couple of weeks back (that was none too bad, either; very
visceral and painted in broad strokes, as Korean cinema tends to be), this
other joint was on some time after that; same timeslot, though. The title of
this one was "Full-time Killer"; it was something of a stir-fry between that
shitful hired-killer movie that had Antonio Banderas and Stallone in it, and
    "Leon".

Hitbloke saunters into police station where his mark is being held. Takes a
bag off his shoulder, unzips it and flings about 50 hand grenades through
the bars on the dude's cell. Takes out another grenade, pulls its pin,
chucks it in after the others, and walks off while the guy in the cell drops
to all fours, and tries to find which of the 51 grenades around him is
missing its pin... terrible, just terrible...

The crime flick from Israel that was on last night (I got home from work at
midnight; you can't just go straight to bed, have to_ease_into it), on the
other hand, sucked anal... but it could've been just the subtitles. "Let go
    of the bag, bloody miser!"

Have a look at "Troy" then, not a product placement in sight and only a
    slightly sooky ending.

Gary (plenty of raging egos and gushing blood though, just like the
    original)

So? Churchill (yeah, Winston) said "the Americans always do the right

    It's just guilt.

They feel obliged to save the world after causing the apocalyptic problems
in their efforts to not steal oil from a bunch of ragheaded camel-felchers.

OMFG ! Are you kidding ? Bourne Identity was woeful ! Def in the 90% of
crud the Yanks are so good at doing. Eternal Sunshine of the spotless
mind was good - although I'm sure you hated it as there were no guns or
    car chases :)

(but what would I know - 90% of the movies I own on DVD aren't in English..)
