I don't have experience of The World before Thatcher, but from the
accounts of friends I think I would probably be pleased enough to take
part in one of their street parties when she does finally die. If it
    was warm, ob.

It'll be epic. Especially if it *does* happen before the 3rd, because
I'll be away for the next few days.

You're deputised as judge and final arbiter, until my return.

For the people who had jobs until she came to power? I don't think so.

Oh, well if you want the world before Thatcher, imagine the country only
being able to work 3 days a week because of 'energy shortages', petrol
rationing vouchers being distributed (but not used), rubbish not being
collected, bodies not being buried and power cuts.

Wasn't that all over by the time she seized power? It's true, her
government fixed a lot of problems. They caused a hell of a lot more,
though. Her arrogance and dictatorialism is what earned her most of
    the antipathy, IMO.

  12. I remember it well, to coin a song. A Conservative government for much of
    it, Labour for some more.

Wasn't the grocer in charge when we had the three day week? I blame
that **** for thatcher getting leadership of the tories so indirectly
he was to blame for her being PM.

Yes, that was a mainly Heath and to some extent Callaghan IIRC.
    And, yes again.
That and the lack of empathy earned her the hate.

I didn't say it was a Labour govenment, or that it was immediately
before '79. I think the 3 day week was, when, '75-'76 ish?

The 3 day week took place under the grocer when he tried his luck
against the miners. I'm convinced it was because of this that thatcher
was so determined to crush the miners a few years later. Vindictive?
