"Ewan McGregor Planning Another Epic Bike Ride"

    EWAN PLANS ANOTHER BIKE TREK.

STAR WARS star EWAN McGREGOR is planning another mad motorcycle trip
in 2006 from London to Cape Town, South Africa.

The bike-mad Scot and fellow actor CHARLIE BOORMAN teamed up to trek
through Europe, Mongolia and Russia to Canada and North America last
year (04), while filming documentary series LONG WAY ROUND.

And now McGregor is keen to head off on another big adventure.
He says, "It's the logical next step. LONG WAY DOWN, we'd call it, and
we'd get to see all of Africa."

And that's not the only bike trip the ambitious actor is planning -
he'd like to zoom around Britain on his favourite vintage motorcycle,
the BSA Lightning, and he hopes to return to the remote roads of
Mongolia for a solo camping trip.

He adds, "There's something terribly comforting about visiting remote
places and being so far away from home.

"There's something so beautiful about being alone, having no
responsibility, but there's also nothing like coming back to work and
    to a family I love." .

The Hollywood star has also demanded a secure shed is built for his
beloved motorbike during his time performing London stage show GUYS
    AND DOLLS.

The 33-year-old Scottish actor - who competed a motorcycle trek around
the world on the bike with actor pal CHARLEY BOORMAN last year (04) -
wants to be assured of the vehicle's whereabouts whilst busy on stage.

A theatre insider says, "Ewan asked if the theatre carpenter could
build a little lock-up shed for his beloved motorbike outside the
    stage door."

The West End show opens tomorrow night (01JUN05) at the capital's
    Piccadilly Theatre.

  3. I'd be more worried about being fingered as a Jock than a biker, but
    there you go.

He just seems like a man who is in touch with his emotions. Not a bad
    thing, either.

Being alone with his full support crew, full factory parts etc etc.

Not quite the same as, for instance, me catching the 7:00am ferry to Morocco

  10. You haven't quite got the hang of this posting thing, have you?

    Nor humour, for that matter.

Spelling, grammar and punctuation also take a back seat.

But for all the above, you need intelligence, so it's going to be a long
    haul.

dwb came up with the following;:
That's what got me .. yeah they were on two bikes, with a Mitsubishi 4x4, a
crewbus and a fucking lorry with shit-loads of equipment on behind them.
They were given two brand new BMW's and all the 'right' equipment with no
expense spared. Right, that's roughing it.

Not knocking his commitment to bikes but hey, with that sort of sponsorship
and support anybody could do it.

    I propose (again) Frankfurt redux...

Morocco on unsuitable bikes nominally sub 200cc but 250 will be allowed
    if it's unsuitable and/or mine.

    Calais - Gibraltar [1].

There and back in seven days, camping at points en route or in other
    words: where they breakdown.

Outfits encouraged and not limited to by the capacity rule but I will not
    be on one.

    The Z200 is ready.
Four or five hundred miles a day. Nothing we haven't done before.
Might I suggest that we consider breaking down at a civilised time each
evening, to allow for dining, imbibing etc?
They'll slow us down. Can we ban GPS?

When are you proposing to do this? I'm actually quite tempted.

My ES Trophy even has some tax.

I suggest maybe next Spring - won't be too hot.

    Of course.

Useful for camping stuff but as you say far too slow. Unless they can
average 55mph they are now banned.

    Dear God, yes.
