The new tyres...

  1. on the ZX9 make it handle much better. The old mismatch of 010 on the
front and a TX23 on the rear didn't work. So what is your worst mismatch?

A cheap indian front tyre on the front of my CG and a cheap indian front
tyre on the back too. :)

Until 6 weeks ago, the VFR had a Bridgestone BT fiftysomething on the
front and a 180 section Avon Azaro 2 on the rear. As far as I can
tell, the steering is a bit quicker with the correctly sized, matching
Pirelli Diablos on - the recommended rear tyre is a 170 section.

Ahhh, now I know who it was backfiring every time they closed the
    throttle.

  8. When I was 17, and fairly stupid, a mix of any secondhand tyre whatsoever
from Bike Bits and completely fucked rear suspension on my RS125 made for
very interesting cornering at pretty much any speed. It usually skipped,
    rather than rolled, round.

I'm convinced it was a good way to learn control for when the back end goes
all wobbly though, that and two years of riding over the grassy lumps, bumps
and hills on a bit of local wasteland every weekend.

The feeling of doom when you shift into second halfway up a 1 in 3 hill,
only to find you've got neutral instead, stays with you a long time. That
and the HT cap sparking away on your thigh when you fall over sideways and
    slide back down again.

Pirelli Phantom - even mismatched with itself.

I'll go with that - I had a pair on my 750R, for about a fortnight.

Also, a Bridgestone TrailWing front/MX rear takes some beating on a
    TS185, as a roadtyre combo.

Nowt wrong with Phantoms. They were excellent tyres and essential
    for any early 'eighties poseur.

I thought that dynojets would make it run like a sewing machine.

    sweller, May 30, 2005

  15. That would be the dynojet kit. They always seam to bog down[1] at low revs.

[1] Far too rich for small revs and anything more than 1/16 throttle.

  16. That would be the kill switch. Can't do that on the GSXR because of the FI.

  18. After market crap. But needed to make the full akrapovic [sp] to work
properly. At higher revs the richness at low throttle openings works well.
In top gear at low revs it runs a bit rich. Not so bad on this one as the
ZXR750. But the 750 did have stage 2.

Pretty good, I'm here in Thailand chilling out for five weeks. Almost two of
those were spent in hospital though. Seriously, I feel pretty good now.
