In the off chance that someone else might be crazy enough to follow in
your footsteps, what advice would you give for better preparation?

I've come across a bit of musical inspiration, from Lemmy of all
people. Motorhead's current single, "Get Back In Line" has the second
    verse:

We are the chosen few; we are the frozen crew,
We don’t know what to do, just wasting time.
We don’t know when to quit, we don’t have room to spit,
But we’ll get over it, get back in line.

Here it is in its entirety, Motorhead terrorising Australian TV by
    playing live:

    Just seemed apposite to me.

Marvellously stupid. I've enjoyed it immensely.

I hope someone else goes next year, so I can enjoy that too.

At least the elefant will seem warmer by comparison ..

We were rather surprised to see an elegant Tudor house - Eastbury
Manor - in the middle of a housing estate in Barking last weekend.

Well, we weren't surprised to see the Manor as that's where we were
heading but we were surprised to see its surroundings.

Surely it was a stupid idea, but that was half the point of doing it in
the first place. I get the impression that the sheer difficulty of the
venture was somewhat underestimated, but respect is due for getting as
far as you have - riding to the arctic circle in winter is a hefty
    achievement in itself.

As to the kit, it seems there's plenty of under-utilised accommodation
in Norway at this time of year. How many instant barbecues do you have
    left? ;)

I expect taking lock de-icer will be fairly high on the list, along
with a heated visor, & a big enough budget to not have to **** around
with tents & cooking at the end of a very tiring day.

TBF, if they restrict themselves to only stopping where there is
accommodation that may limit the distance they can do in a day, which
turns the exercise in to even more of an Everest rather than Alpine
approach and makes a two week time window even more ambitious.

Now they have more of a feel for the average speed they can keep up it
might be possible if there is a next time to prepare a schedule of
    possible suitable overnight stops though.

Preparation H? Perhaps they have postural problems and haven't learnt
from other posters who once travelled by bike in winter? ;-)

  14. OK so it was years ago when I did the Norway run in the summer, but then
there were lots of superb wooden cabins on camp sites that were spacious
clean warm and cheap. I'd go for that.

Would I do what they've done?
    Maybe 20 years ago.

    Are they mad?
    Definitely!

Do I admire what they are achieving?

    100%

Last year I turned down diving on wrecks at Tromso, on the Tirpitz etc.
    Only 1 to 2 degs C!
It has to be at least 10 for me in a dry suit or 20 in a wet suit, I
    feel the cold now-a-days.

There's an ancient manor house just over the road from where we live,
surrounded by old folks bungalows :)

The's an ancient manor house (now a pub[1]) in Bracknell, surrounded
    by...err...Bracknell.

Use to drink there when I had the misfotune to be workin, and stayiong
three nights a week, in Bracknell. Don't think it was a Wetherspoons
at that time, as I recall I usually drank Newky Brahn, a sure sign
that they didn't have any decent draught ales.
