Try living there for two years!
It's the best pub in the town centre, which doesn't say much for the
others. But being a JDW's, it pretty much does exactly what it says on
    the tin, which is fine.

I haven't been in there for a couple of years now.

as they've only camped one night I doubt the latter would enter the
    equation.

Like it was a serious comment
I'm thinking about how the German army got close to Moscow with many
    sidecars!

As you know my Outfit is remarkably stable and easy to control (relatively)
and it has a steering damper. I was thinking fully studded tyres front and
rear. It was the sidecar wheel I thought might take a small pitch chain
rather than having to carry another complete wheel.

But I don't know any other sidecar owners stupid enough.

I don't know if you remember my comments pre Elephant but one of the blokes
who works in Motorworks has done that trip with a group. More than once
IIRC. They didn't use any 'leccy clothing, all high end climbing stuff.

I reckon a quad would be best, & definitely the most fun.

Well I was kinda interested until Sidecars went off the menu.
Years of riding solo's through Caithness winters, 20 or 30 miles each way,
while possibly less challenging, was sufficient experience.

That's a wheel too far. One may as well take a Cabriolet with the roof down.

I would have had a crack at it on the Mille/RS3. The rear wheel on
that could take a small car tyre and a suitable winter grip on
enhanced with studs would have been pretty good. You could probably
get a studded knobbly in the unit leading links with possibly a
change to the mudgaurd, It had a steering damper which could be scrwed
up pretty tight. The chair wheel can do what it likes if its not
providing any drive. Battery the size of a small car anyway, plus an
auxilliary unit in the chair. A camoer van relay to control the
    charging.

My joints wouldn't be up to it these days though and would probably
seize solid. Having said that the pikey Merino sockes I just got from
Go Outdoors are proving very effective inside my wellies this morning.

The Germans aren't stupid, you know. They had the foresight to go there
in the summer and autumn. They might have been somewhat delayed by the
inexplicably churlish reluctance of the Russians to be incorporated into
the glorious Reich, but they did at least have the common-sense to set
out on their little jaunt in ideal conditions.

Point of order. They were delayed by ructions in the Balkans, thanks in
    small part to British agitators.

    About a month IIRC.

Though with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight we know that the deciding factor
was always going to be the timeline for moving the huge Siberian army from
Vladivostoc climes to North of Moscow. Not the weather.

The army Her Hitler didn't know about. Like everything else East of the
    Urals. Silly ****.

Wasn't the whole point of the exercise that it was going to be a
    challenge,
hence the use of 2 wheels?
Had I had the balls to go my C90GS would have been perfect.
    Almost.

Indeed, it's just that, like others, I like to play the 'what if' game
and I often wonder if the Battle of Moscow would have been similar to
Stalingrad and the effect of its capture on subsequent events.

It would still have gone into the winter so yeah it might well have done for
the Krauts. I can't remember what the timeline was for the army moving from
    Siberia by rail.
