  3. Did it about 30 years ago.
    In the summer.
    In a bog paper blue Mk2 XJ6.

Wore out a set of new tires making the trip.

Most of the roads were crushed rock and no tarmac.

Yeah I managed just about 2 years of gloom before baling. Which was a year
    too long with hindsight.

A mate of mine did it last summer on a KTM 950SM (via Estonia). He said
that you could actually see the view, which is apparently unusual
according to the locals, who told him it was usually shrouded in fog. He
also said something about a long expensive toll tunnel at some point to
    reach it.

    (after a bit of googling)

The Nordkapp itself is on an island called Magerøya, you have to go through
a tunnel to get to it:

It's on Streetview if you want to check it out:

We did it last year as well (in July when it was much warmer than
now!). The weather was very variable - beautiful clear skies and warm
one day, low cloud/fog and chilly the next. Compare and contrast -

Assuming your mate is talking about the same one near Nordkapp there
is a reasonably long tunnel on the E69 and I can't remember how much
it cost but it wasn't that bad and it's certainly quicker than the
ferry it replaced. That's a fantastic road - all bends and scenery.

Packer: "So... that's enough for one day. Got chain replaced and did
about 300km. Heavy snow made the last 15 or 20k tough going. Great
    scenery."

I asked if they'd made as much progress as hoped, Sweller replied "Not
really, roads whited out. Made for slow going"

Well, yes, that's just cheating. They might as well turn round now if
they're going to keep that shit up.

they aren't inside the Arctic Circle yet: I thought that was one of the
    objectives, camp inside the circle.

I won't be happy until they've had to kill a reindeer at the side of
the road and sleep in its hollowed out carcass.

Be a bit rash to kill it, Sweller's going to need something to ride when
he runs out of oil for the bike.

It's agricultural enough to run on rendered down reindeer fat, I'm
    sure.

    Hog<.
    **** off.

There's been 300km of that so far. Road white'd out for last 20km, couple of inches of fresh snow, still pulling 30mph

The studs and Trelleborgs are excellent.

Yes as I only realised today as I thought "oh let's see where these
brave adventurers are off to" so fired up google maps.

OK, turn left at the end of the road, then pick up the road to the
railway station, then off to the M3 and ... holy shit, 2,256 miles!

You're probably thinking of where they are in the Ikea catalogue.
