The problem is he's not in either of the two that really count
until that happens it'll just be a wimper from the back row

I anticipate a hung parliament with a lot of independents.

Cos face it... who could vote for either major party in NSW?

The real problem is if he were in either of the major parties (and
he's been previously involved in both) he'd be required to tow the
party line just like the rest of them!

Almost anyone is preferable to tweedledum and tweedledee (except a
    Green). :)

Nothing like a bit of media spin to get 'em going!
What the platform actually says is.... "We believe public land should
be accessible for recreational purposes and actively managed, not
    locked up and neglected.".... http://www.orp.org.au/

What's *your* particular problem with that?

  9. Don't know that anyone should have a problem with that in essence.
If you look at what QldGovCo is up to with Fraser island there's a shitload
of room for that sort of politics herebouts, too.
But I'm extreeeemly leery indeed about that word "managed" and especially
so when I see it juxtaposed with "actively". And the opposite to actively
managed is locked up and neglected? One or the other?
Just which stock routes and right-of ways are this mob after, anyway?
    So, **** 'em. Now.

There is an old saying - from deserts prophets come.

I was spending a lot of time in Melbourne in the late 80's early 90's
(browsing in the Eliz St bike shops as it happens) and the tail end of the
Cain / Kirner [remember Mother Russia?] government was as unpopular then as
the current lot is in NSW.

Economically, the place was a complete basket case - jokes about Victoria
being a cemetery with the lights on etc.

Just as on occasional visitor, the turn around in Vic in effective
government has been extra ordinary - much improved public health,
rationalised local government and simple things like roads are way better in
than here. Not about party politics, its just that the population do care
about the services they receive and will readily throw out what they
perceive to be an under performing government, so I think the kiddies in
parliament have been trying much harder there.

So here we have the tail end of institutionalised corruption and puppet
premiers dancing to the tune of their masters with next to no effective
    alternative government.

I reckon that gets close to being a desert; pity about the lack of prophets.

    Best, Andrew

Well... it is my understanding that NSW has always been like that!

There's a little known place called, I think, the Museum of Sydney
which chronicles the life of the city. One of the more interesting
displays is a bunch of writing about Sydney: letters, articles, and
    such.

They all talk about how Sydney is as city on the make, worshipping
money, corrupt, full of itself with no reason, and full of spivs...

(Now they might have been chosen for this theme, on the other hand
maybe no one did say anything else about the place! They sure don't
    these days.)

  15. But watch the majors change tact if this mob get any real following.
Democracy needs a few radicals to stir public opinion and rile the apathetic
    into action
Remember Pauline, she certainly got more people talking, whatever their
    political persuasion.

I'd vote for em, at least once.

Except for the influence of minor parties on their policies!

No better example than the Greens, who see the bush as some sort of
fragile museum lesser humans seek to destroy, the preservation of
which is paramount. As always, Government land management policies
are little more than an effort to curry favour with those who're able
to influence electoral outcomes, which currently happens to be they.

Almost any alternative ought be preferable. :)

They became the Shooters and Fishers Party.

The problem with these sorts of parties is that they are fragmented into
single issue parties so none of them attract enough votes to get elected.

The main difference between NSW and Victoria is that the corrupt
Victorian pollies run on the premise that if they run in packs down to
the back paddock they can fleece more sheep (and leave the paddock
looking greener) whereas the NSW ones are too lazy to get out of the
house paddock, the farmer keeps catching them and they've over grazed
the only paddock they ever visit (ok so the metaphor is getting stretched :)

My point is really that Vic pollies aren't less corrupt than NSW ones
they're just more organized and looking to the longer term.

Actually the Greens seem to be shifting their emphasis from land based
lockouts to marine lockouts... maybe they're running out of land to lock
    up *sigh*

    Phuquing landlubbers !!! Grrrrrrrrrr.

    Happy New Year, y'all.

Ob motorcycle bit: I'm up here at Malaney, commuting to the Woodford
Folk Festival by rented four-wheeler each day, and dodging the
motorcycle hoons on the twisties is starting get a life-threatening
    feel about it.

So far I've saved the lives of three hoons by swerving left
    significantly on each occasion.

I'm thinking of twin M60's mounted behind the front bumper and
heads-up displayed cross-hairs on the windscreen, with an electric
trigger switch mounted on the steering wheel...

Ride safe guys, AND KEEP OUT OF MY PHUQUING WAY !!!
