Theo, I went back and had another look at the paragraph I was referring
    to. Here's the text:

151A Riding a motor bike alongside a vehicle
The rider of a motor bike must not ride in a marked lane past
the left or right of a vehicle (except another motor bike or a
bicycle) that is travelling, or is stationary but not parked, in the
    marked lane.

Soo.. without having read the rest of the submission carefully, I took
this to mean that splitting to the right of parked cars (so long as you
remained in their lane) was considered legal?

    Cheers

When I read that, it specifically states that it's not. "The rider of a
motor bike must NOT ride in a marked lane past the left or right of a
vehicle....in the marked lane." Unless the vehicle is another motor bike or
    bicycle.

Yes, but the 'Or is stationary but not parked' bit leads me to believe
that riding to the right of a parked car, whilst in its lane is legal!
So.. a stationary car that's in traffic - illegal. A stationary car
    that's parked.. legal!

  4. Expanding on that logic, I have to ask the next obvious (to me) question..
If the cars in the left-hand lane are stationary, and it's a parking-allowed
lane, how do you know if they're parked or not? Is it 20 stationary cars,
or 20 parked cars with their engins running?

    Cheers,

Yes, you will still be allowed to ride past parked vehicles without changing
    to another lane.

But it is the way it's worded. You should assume that every 20th parked car
will be an unmarked Police vehicle waiting for you to ride past in their
lane, and just stick to the right-hand lane but they'll book you for that
    too. :-(

If the occupants are on their mobile phones the cars are stationary, if they
have left the car for a coffee they are abandoned.

When the traffic is totally stopped on the freeway, all the cars look
like they are parked to me.

I suspect the prosecuter would be arguing that parked cars aren't
actually in a lane but are in a parking bay and that the first lane is
the left most ones where vehicles can move along the road.

The "prosecuter" would be arguing the opposite.

So you _were_ listening! Hammo needs to turn up now and
tell you his side of the story (which was that before we
got to that we'd spent hours completely removing and cleaning
the bloody carbs to no avail ...). But he's gone and
got a bloody job and buggered off!

  13. It never rained enough for me to find it. Only happened whilst in my
ownership twice from memory and usually the last half hour going home.

Yeah it does seem to indicate that.
Still fuckin' dangerous in multilane traffic though!

It depends; up here the left-most lane is often twice as wide to allow for
parking and traffic in the same lane.

I pedalled my Schwinn bicycle past a Harley in the twisties the
other day, and he looked like he was parked to me.

And what if it's parked illegally in a clearway zone and hasn't yet been
    towed?

    I'm very confused ...
