The price of laziness

  1. Is 50 quid an hour.

That's what I paid a bloke to clean my R1 while I was at work.

It is bloody good and is in showroom condition again but I don't know if
    it's worth 50 quid.

£50 quid an hour is too much for what is semi-skiled labour at best.

However to get my bike back to showroom condition would take more than
an hour and if he is self employed and had to travel to get to your
bike, maintain and run a vehicle etc. then it doesn't seem so bad.

Personally I'll clean my own bike (or not) but wouldn't come and do
    yours for £50

If they've done a really good job and it is spotless, it would
be money well spent in both keeping it clean and in resale
    value.

It's in the same condition as when I bought it - mint.

He did a manager's Harley clone for the same money but was there pretty
much all afternoon polishing the thing.

Yes, it cost a bit but I'm happy with the results.

Oh I dunno. I could be tempted to take a bucket and sponge to his cbr,

Yes, I guess it all depends on what the bike is like underneath
as to how the results come up. My 748's engine has peeling paint
and rusty nuts, so while it could do with a clean it'll only
    show up the shit bits.
That's the main thing. It does look in damn good nick.

I slop bike cleaner over it and rinse off after every long-ish ride
(e.g. mine was minging with grit when it came back from Sedan), which
keeps the worst off, then when dry, lube the chain.

I deep clean it (take lube and crap off the wheels and clean the chain)
    twice a year.

Doesn't take that long, but it never gets back to 'showroom finish'.

Hmmm, I could have sworn you were Bear with a post like that....

Desperately need to clean it properly, though.

  16. I was expecting a better bite than that ;-)

I'm with Ant. Cleaning the Ducati only shows how shite the rusty bits
    are.

I remember pointing a jet wash at my Moto Guzzi Spada in the 1980s. I
watched as it simply blasted off the frame paint. Horrifying. Hardly
bothered to clean it at all after that.

In a particularly chilled out mood at the moment as I have the week off
work, and I'm off down West Wales for a spot of sea fishing tomorrow.
Yes, well, if you will buy badly built Wop shite ;-)
