Yes, thats the guy. Personally I didn't really enjoy the programme as much
as I thought I would. I admired the minimalist approach without a back up
crew etc but I didn't find his narration as funny or atmospheric as
    McGregor/Boorman.

Maybe that says more about me than it does him...........

When one is being rider, director, camera man AND trying to make a
round-the-world record it's difficult to spend too much time off the
    bike.

Got and reading - I will get to the end, but I don't like Ted Simon's
writing style. If I were financially able to make such a trip and had
the know how to fix things on a bike (that's never!) then I would take
a long time over it. I wouldn't like to run to deadlines.

    Well, quite.

Having said that I was quite jealous that they'd actually got to do that
and some of the stuff they did seemed quite tough (the boggy bits); at
least much more challenging than anything I've ever managed.

Thing that really puzzled me was why they didn't just buy the fucking
bikes themselves. Maybe it's 'cos Charlie's not as well heeled as Euan.

But, still, more power to them. It was good television and showed me a
lot of stuff I'd never have seen otherwise.

Hopefully the Lands end to the Cape run that they're apparently planning
    will be just as interesting.

Hmm. Wonder if we can persuade them to do it on sub-200cc bikes of >10
    years old?

I didn't watch TLWR, I just couldn't escape the feeling it was all set up.

On the other hand Mondo Enduro (and its follow up, IIRC, Terra Circa) was
a different kettle of fish altogether. I really must get round to buying
    the DVD.

The BMW GS is now the UK's top selling enduro. BMW must have made
mucho casho out of Ewan & Charley's adventure. Giving away a couple
of £8k bikes plus tools and support is VERY cheap worldwide
advertising for a company like BMW.

Absolutely. Shame KTM didn't have the confidence in the trip... bet
    they're kicking themselves now.

    We've done this before.

KTM probably made a smart decision because there's reasonable chance
that their bikes wouldn't have made it.

That would have been bad publicity.

I thought it rang a bell after I'd typed it...
    I guess we'll bever know.
Depends I guess on how it was presented and how KTM responded. It really
couldn't have yruned out better for BMW though, despite the cracked
    frame.

It's not an enduro ytc, it's an 'adventure tourer' or 'big trailie'. It
probably is the best selling in its class, but I expect that's been the
case for at least 20 years.
