I thought gravity was one of those renewable resources.

I clutch start a bike down hill from my house, which has lots of spare
    gravity.

Then, with the bike running, I go back up hill to my place, thus
repaying the small amount of gravity that I had "borrowed".

I admit that some places have more spare gravity than others, Sydney
being particularly well endowed in comparison to Melbourne, for instance.

    Back in 1976, I bought a VW1600 for $100, with rego but without a
starter motor. I used that as my regular transport, in and around Sydney
for six months before I traded it on something else. All that time,
using the excess gravity freely available in Sydney, to start the motor.

The only problem I found with that was going downtown, where it took
some time to find a parking meter spot, which had money still unused on
the meter, couldn't be parked in, and some handy gravity to start the beast.

    regards,

I think the earth has a finite supply of gravity... 1.

I had a Morris 1100 and did the same thing for a while, until someone parked
in front of me at 11pm. If you jack up the front wheel, put it in gear and
hand turn the wheel it is possible to start the car. This convinced me to
    fix the starter motor.

It would be right next to the Lucas fridge - where the pizzas are kept at a
    suitable temperature....

Yeah, Victoria has two hills ... if you are heading south from NSW, one
is on the right and the other is on the left. The rest is flat. Born and
bred Victorians can be easily identified - they are the ones with nose
bleeds after going over speed humps.
