**** me. Just checking out prices on Ebay, so I have a clue what I might get
    for the 9R.

Out of interest looking at R1s (as one does on Ebay), limited the search to
2001/2002s, as they fit within my pikey world view.

2001 - the six ending soonest have rustled up a massive zero bids between
    them.
2002 - seven ending soonest, one bid between them.

ZX9Rs, there were five 2000 bikes on there, only one had been bid on (the red
one, natch). I might watch that auction.

I wonder what people are doing when their bikes don't sell, because they ain't
    selling, that's for sure.

Should have bought a black SV650s K5, they're massively popular judging
by the prices they command and speed they sell at on the SV forum. I'm
quite happy in the knowledge that I'll probably make a profit on mine
in about a year's time, and I paid just below book price for it when I
    bought it in January.

  3. Hve you checked 'completed auctions'? All the bidding happens in the
    last 2 minutes, you know.

I didn't but was interested enough to have a butchers:

    2000 ZX9Rs, 2/10 sold, 1 bid each
    2001 R1s, 5/14 sold, 3 of the 5 were track bikes
    2002 R1s, 3/22 sold, total of 4 bids across the 3 auctions

So not an awful lot of bidding going on.

Still a lot of "no bid" and "reserve not met" in the litre bike class
    though

  6. Looks that way. Well, there's a cash shortage and winter is drawing on.
Not a good time to sell a big sports bike, unless you start at 99p, no
reserve, and don't mind what it fetches. There are a lot of people out
there with totally unrealistic reserves. I was looking at another
GPZ900R, bid on it, failed to make reserve, asked the seller what he
wanted for it, and he said...

    ....£2200

I pointed him at the 'completed auctions list'. He's tried again, and
again, and last I saw has bidding struggled up to £800. It should go
above a grand, but not much over £1100.

OTOH, I saw a very, very clean and original Honda 250 Super Dream, same
age and condition as my son's, same mileage even (ie: slightly over
10k), but fewer extras, sell for exactly a grand, presumably because
    "it's a cheap economical bike".

There are people out there with a bloody odd sense of economy, if so.

Just look at the prices that decent learner bikes are making, as well as
    33bhp Purdah-mobiles.

I get the first bit, but not the second. At least they aren't going for those
prices on Ebay. There's something of a gap between 1500-3000 - most bikes
seem to go for lower or higher than that range[1].

Not where I fucking work, it doesn't. tried to snipe a cheapo graphics
card for an old PC and, despite starting the bid process with 29 seconds
to go, I was still too late.

Yeah, and the dealers are finding it so easy to shift bikes that
they're holding out for top money.

Only a fool sells to a dealer unless they're buying from them and most
dealers will be willing to negotiate *if* you've got a trade in that
they think they'll be able to move on at a profit.

Yebbut aren't they getting even less from a dealer?

Err, you mean £2.5k plus the R1 for a K8 GSXR. Seems an ok deal. High
mileage 06 models advertising for £5k, dealer ones with lower milages
for £5.6ish. SO even if he sells the R1 for £5k, he's still making money
on the new sale. In fact, not looking like that great a deal. £2k plus
the R1 might be a better bet.
