They shoot tourist don't they???

  1. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There came a young rider from across the boarder to a beach in
Ensenada... where the sand is smooth as glass and moist as slush...
high in the sky rest the sun... the rider goes forward in the ultimate
solitude known as "spinning donuts"... dozens and dozens of feet up
donuts are a source of never ending joy until... the rider spots a
single ray of sun glint off a chrome plated 45 caliber pistol... there
stands a tall figure of a man holding the pistol with both hands... the
man is a hired security guard... he has nothing to do but to protect
the beach... acres and acres of sand perfect for a rider to play on...
the man is mad and the rider's fate hangs in the moment... the rider
gives up... it's the code of the west... he stops to face the man and
the 45... the hammer is cocked... there's a finger on the trigger...
the hands are sweaty... the arms are protruded... the face of the
man is mad... it reads intruder alert on his protected beach... a
heavily accented voice bring forth the charges... "you drive crazy"...
this could be it for the rider... there are no places to run... no places
to hide on an lonely beach in Mexico... the rider gestures with raised
arms "don't shoot me"... the barrel of the chrome 45 comes closer...
the rider moves his head to the left... the barrel pursues left... the
rider moves his head to the right... the barrel pursues right... The
dialogue is one sided... the rider swears to leave this man's beach at
once and shall never return as long as he lives... the man waves the
barrel in the only direction the rider should go... the rider turns his
back and starts the his trusty Husky... the engine answers on the
first kick... the staccato cadence of the two stroke engine is all he
hears roosting the sand but it's the fear of the first crack of a zipping
bullet that keeps the throttle pinned...

    Nice one Larry...

My story on Ensenda Beach is tuning the Yamaha 500 for the
grand prix there in 1975 or so... a day earlier my secretary
Sunny, and her sister, both babes..and they drank...took off
early got drunk and hit a rock outside of ensenada, took out
the A frame on their car....a mexican bar tender came
by...arranged to get their car fixed and took them to his
place for a screw.... they arrived late at the race. ..where I
was almost killed.. I hit a rock in the tall sweet pool table
smooth looking grass ...along side the deeply rutted dirt road
I was hauling ass on.. nasty Larry...real nasty... the girls
thought that was an improvement though as I was in too much
pain to talk for a week after that.

Mine is having 2 car stereo's ripped out of the cars by Federales with
nickel plated Colt .45's. One out of my car and one out of another
guy's car at about 4am after being woken up by the 'law enforcement
personnel.' We were given the choice to shut up or go to jail.

    Nice beach though.

thanks.... that used to be common news...supressed though for
the last 10 years or so... I met a guy who travels at a
starbucks the other day and told him I was thinking of taking
my bike to mexico...he looked out the window and said it
wouldnt last 2 days... rent one.

Our govt is trying to gloss over the entire mess as it
legalizes 15 million illegals and pardons the corporations
from billions in fines for violationg the law with tax and
imigration fraud... that has driven US worker rates down along
with the net tax base (as govt lies about that also...our debt
and unfunded obligation has gone from 20 to 46 trillion
    dollars since GWB took office)

this mess will not end well...

Okay, this is a silly story, but true. I'd gone down to San Quintin with
some friends for some surf fishing, paragliding, and cerveza on the
beach like the Tecate ads portray. (no macaw bottle opener, though)

There's a Federale checkpoint in Ensenada on the way back North. So, we
pull up, and this Federale with automatic weapon indicates he wants to
check the back of the camper. Kid wasn't old enough to grow a mustache,
geez. So, we unlock the back. He goes in, dumps out my friend's make-up
case all over the couch, rummages thru some backpacks, totally ignoring
the larger duffle-bags up in the webbing. They're heavy, and full of
    paragliding harnesses and tackle.

Now, at the time, I was working as a cook on a sportfishing boat, and in
my backpack, I had a million-dollar bill with Bill Clinton on it. I used
to put it in the tip jar and make jokes about Bill Gates fishing with up.

But you know, when I got home, that bill was GONE! Can you believe it?
The dumb **** STOLE my fake million dollar bill!
Bet he thought he was gonna buy his ass a nice little condo on the
    beach, eh?

A-men. You have two classes of people here: Morons who post in
newsgroups who are afraid that they will get a hangnail if they ride in
Mexico. And real riders who post at places like www.ADVRider.com who
have plenty of positive tales of riding in Mexico.

Mexico is not all sweetness and light but tales of getting your bike
ripped off "in two days" in Baja are simply nonsense.

I rode the Ensenda grand prix in baha long ago... many of my
friends ride down there all the time... it may be a mistake to
compare that bike tourist dependent economy with the rest of
    mexico.

cutting off discussion of the scene because some parts are
fine may not be the best approach.... there are also american
colonies in mexico..completely safe... their retirement money
funds entire areas..and they get good protection.

I think the larger picture is a little less rosy in spots...

'Pirate John' is no doubt fearless..he would leave his
bike there... those bandits in the south are probably no match
for him either...or the crooked cops with IQ's of 15 toting
machine guns... guys like pirate handle those without even
having to think about it, thats because they know from Baha
    thats its all cool.

Officially the "Zona Norte" in Tijuana ... in Mazatlan the working girl
district is the Zona Roja (Roja is red in Spanish).

But yeah ... you are right. Not a smart place to leave a bike on the
    street.

There was recently a get together of a bunch of riders that rode to
Tijuana to meet and have lunch with a guy who had ridden basically
around the world and had been kidnapped in Central America at one
point. Anyway, that was at a bar and restaurant somewhere in or near
    the Zona Norte.

But they locked the bikes up in the courtyard of the restaurant ;)

Hey Einstein, er, ah, I mean "Phil." Take a really hard look at the
photo at the top of the page at
    http://www.buccaneerpublishing.com/tall_tales.htm . Y'know, the guy
with the Uzi. And get back to me when you figure out the significance
of the photo vs. the nonsense that you wrote.

If you think that all of the "crooked cops" are crooked and have an IQ
of 15, I'll put you up against this guy and his buddies any day.
Because from where I'm sitting, he was a lot brighter than the crap and
    misinformation that you are posting.

No, Mexico's not for pricks and loud mouths and stupid people with
chips on their shoulders. But for adults it's a helluva great place to
    ride and travel.

Compared to you, Phil is Einstein. And, much nicer to read his postings
    than your bragster stuff.

No doubt, it won't be long before you are followed in here by your
"Sybil" personalities either, of Hoodoo fame.

Think you know it all about Mexico and Central America, etc.? eh? And
you are such a bad ass, aren't ya? I didn't even look at your picture,
but c'mon...don't post in this group and pick on "our own". Phil is
highly regarded here, you are a stranger, to say the least.

I'm a girl, and I traveled by myself through Honduras and Guatemala
amongst a LOT of other places in this world. You want to compare those
places to riding in Mexico? People walk down the street with machetes
and rifles slung over their shoulders. I saw an ice cream cart with an
armed guard, never mind a motorcycle.

Also, did a lot of traveling in the mideast, also by myself. Highly
frowned upon by the locals if you aren't wearing a bedsheet.

So, the stuff about Mexico you are posting is mundane to say the least.
Mexico is a tourist haven and no more dangerous to travel to than many
other places... Tiajuana..hmmm... I'll give you that, but any really
poor place, anywhere, leave something of value and it *will* be gone
    when you come back.

And so was PirateJohn, that's what he does very, very well. Are you
familar with the guy at all? Probably the most prolific cross-poster,
spammer, in newsgroup history, at least in the top ten. Saw/read so
much of his stuff that he can leave Phil alone in this group... and go
post to the 5,000 other groups he posts to and no one will miss him a
    bit.

No jumping to conclusions on my part, but Phil is entitled to his
opinion and he did so with grace, and some dignity, and didn't need to
    jumped from PirateJohn.

This "Beckyboop" is hilarious. She crossposts to a zillion motorcycle
groups (yeah, I know ... I'm crossposting to three groups myself
because you posted to them, rightly or wrongly) and doing a quick
Google she's active in the rec.motorcycles.harley group, which can't be
good at all. Full of spit, bullshit, and vinegar. Got a chip on her
    shoulder the size of Montana.

Y'know the funny thing? I've never heard of her. She appears to do a
lot more posting and crossposting than riding. But opinions -- right,
wrong, crossposted, or clueless -- she's sure got a ton of 'em.

Anyway, to ignore this old girl, Mexico isn't for clueless people.
Stupid people can certainly get hurt or lose their spare change. But
there are some excellent riding opportunities and 99% of the folks that
ride down there want to go back. And my experience with the residents
down there are that there are some very nice folks south of the border.
Certainly as many nice people down there as we have ignorant rednecks
    up here.

    of words. >>

In fairness, Turby, I did give Phil a pretty good shot across the bow.
His comment (to paraphrase here) about Mexican authorities with an IQ
of 15 pissed me off. Re-reading the thread I notice that he earlier
asked for advice on Mexico. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt but
if he actually has that low of an opinion of the authorities down there
then he's not likely to last long. On the other hand, if he's
interested in traveling in Mexico ... well, we all have to start
    somewhere.

And to Becky, her with the chip on her shoulder, yeah Baja is supposed
to be pretty easy. I'm on the east coast US and have never ridden in
Baja except to go to Tijuana. Baja is considered to be a gringo's
playground, and that was the point. That you could go and ride and
play and shouldn't have any trouble. ¿Comprende? (Actually
¿entienda? according to my dictionary, but hopefully she will get the
    point ;)

The photo that you didn't care to look at (can we say "closed mind, big
mouth, and that chip getting in the way again?" was of a local
cop/paramilitary with an Uzi in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. He
was a very nice guy. We were shooting the breeze, and there was about
a half dozen of his pals from an armored truck standing behind me when
I shot the photo. We were all just a bunch of good ol' boys, smoking
and swapping tales and having some laughs. But he and his pals were
    all decent folks indeed.

You respect them, and they will respect you. All in all my experiences
with the Mexican authorities have always been very positive.

    YMMV.

Beg to differ...you would have had to check all the spamming going on
with the Hoodoo thing and they were both going at it constantly. I
don't get outside the sportsbike group very often but he's been in here
often enough. Him and the Hoodoo troll and they are equally guilty of
spamming each other. Don't know how that one started but it was
    unrelenting on both their parts.
Ignore him/her/them? Killfile them? I don't know for sure, never had
that problem. But to seek them out and publish them on your own
website. Went a little overboard on everyone's part. Don't ya think? It
did drive everyone insane for some time there and PJ was sharing that
with everyone who didn't give a hoot.

For sure they should have been wiped out but seems they worked each
    other up into that situation.

And now he's launched a personal attack on me. Claims he's never heard
of me BUT....I cross post to a bazillion groups. I never heard of cross
posting until about 3 weeks ago. And, I have a chip on my
shoulder...and I post to Harley so that's just wrong. He's posted in
    there too...a lot.

He seems to have a habit of attacking the person rather than their
ideas. OK to disagree and discuss ideas, but why resort to personal
attacks? He did that with Phil and I called him on it. And, I have read
many of his posts. I did that because of the Hoodoo thing. It was so
convulated that who could figure out what the heck was going on there.

I took issue with his personal attack of Phil and I stand by that.

And, looked a couple of other posts of his. Won't overwhelm you here as
there are thousands....but most are cutting people down a lot. Here's
    an example.

OK Becky ... let's try to go for a fresh start, OK?

Point #1. I am human. Far from perfect, but IMHO basically a nice
    guy.

Point #2. You cited where I was flaming a guy in an RV group because
he dissed Mexicans. Fair enough. There is a recurring theme here. I
feel strongly that Mexicans take a ton of unwarranted abuse. You are
free to disagree but be prepared to defend your position. I'm
agreeable, but I do stand by my experiences. The whole migration issue
has many people up in arms. I certainly remember when black folks took
a ton of abuse and few whites stood up to their defense. I'm not that
sort of person -- I will, indeed, defend my Mexican friends.

Point #3. I can tell that you crosspost and that you flame. It's
simple to call up your posts via Google. You didn't have any trouble
calling up my posts. As they say, "pot, kettle, black." You aren't
    perfect. I'm not perfect.

Point #4. I don't want to go into the H**d** stalking thang because,
at this point, it seems to be past, at least online. And I have always
said that if he/she/it didn't stalk me then I would ignore them. And
that was unfortunate, and involved real world death threats against my
family, and real world stalking. There is an adage that this nonsense
goes with being a celebrity, even if only a minor celebrity. For the
sake of newsgroup harmony I don't want to go further. But I will say
this: my email address was forged to posts, and there were quite a few
(hundreds?) of posts that were made that I didn't actually make. I
seldom make a post to motorcycle newsgroups because, frankly, I find
these newsgroups to be boring, off topic, and too easy for wannabes to
    fake their credentials.

I seldom post to the motorcycle newsgroups. I will post about
charities, good causes, and the occasional area where I feel that I
have some expertise. Otherwise, I seldom chat in the motorcycle
    newsgroups.

I might add that, to my knowledge, I have never posted to the
sportsbike newsgroup, where you are appearantly a regular. A troll
made the posts there. I didn't even know that you guys existed. My
presence is in moderated groups and in brick and mortar bookstores --
why would I bother with a bunch of kids with go fast bikes? Not to
diss kids with go fast bikes but it's not my scene. The club that I am
President of has some people with amazing go fast credentials. I'd
rather drink a beer and hang with them than shoot the breeze with
people that I have no clue of.

    Peace.
