I still think my old round shaped SV650S was one of the most fun bikes
I've ever owned. No doubt it'd be less impressive now I'm used to
fuel injection and more BHP, but it just did everything so well.

Take your time and find a good one in your budget. You can't get that
warm fuzzy feeling if you feel you've been conned and end up spending
more time and more importantly money fixing bit's n' bobs.

I got one to make me look cool and attract girls.

It didn't work. So I'll go with the soul full of joy.

Following a horrendous train journey from the office on Friday I'm
keeping an eye on ebay (no real plans to buy until April). Didn't think
of a divvy but there's only one on there anyway. Was thinking about
versys/vstrom etc. What say the font on a suitable steed around 2k or
under with a top box? - don't want/need side panniers. Occasional
commute to Stockport from Nottingham, little bit of M1 but mainly Cat
    and Fiddle :)

Go back 30 years, and irresponsible yoofs had FS1Es & AP50s that were
thrashed to within an inch of their lives.

    Plus ça change.

Good job that's a capital C, or you might have got a virtual kick in
    the goolies.

You used to own a Thundercat, didn't you? What did you think of it?

I liked it, easy to maintain, easy to ride, took us to France with a
Ventura pack on the back and had a big enough tank that we were the ones
searching for fuel on the Sunday when everybody else was parked up :)

Not sure I'd buy another though, I'd like to see if the less sporty
bikes like the Versys and Vstrom are comfier on long journeys, or even a
    Divvy.

I'd recommend it for people looking for a cheapish 600 that might want a
bit more weather protection than you get on the B6 or SV. Damn sight
    easier to clean as well.

Yeah, and it's on the list, but I've had one before as you know, so
would like to try something different. Also seems very difficult to find
one that has luggage fitted, plenty with straight bars etc.

How you getting on with yours?

It's great, perfect tool for the job. I'll be keeping it now as it
turns out my company isn't going to give me a car after all.

Took a little while to get into the habit of carrying everything in
the boxes and storing kit in them during work, but now I've got it
    sorted it's really good.

4000 mile service on Saturday and it still feels like new.

Comfort of the Versys is the best I have ever experienced on any
motorcycle I have ever owned. It also has a 225 - 250 mile tank range
if you don't cane it all the way. Mine has panniers and a topbox, but
none of the luggage interferes with the handling, even when reasonably
well loaded (taking 3 washloads of wet laundry to laundrette for
    drying).

I can't ride mine for a few weeks because I'm awaiting an operation,
want to borrow it and have an extended test ride?

Ta for the offer, but it ain't anywhere near warm enough for me to
venture out on the bike, even when faced with a crap train journey.

I did manage to get in the garage today though, fixed a leaky CB carb
gasket, only to find that somebody has bodged the float pin and they're
not free enough to float. My spare carbs are fine, but one of the floats
needs soldering back on[1]. Eventually I'll win with this bike, I hope.

[1] Hurray for metal (brass plated?) floats. Not.
