This evening, brethren...

  1. .... I screwed up my courage to the sticking point, turned off my brain,
selected the "mumblety-mumble years of experience" switch to "off", got
the GTR to 60 of Her Majesty's Miles per Imperial Hour and grabbed the
front brake with full might and main. Whilst standing on the rear brake
    pedal.

Oh yes, a full-on ABS test.

    **** me.

You can't half stop quick when you need to.

    You'd stop quicker without ABS

<snip excessively long and boring sig>

    Man and machines eh...

We put inordinate amounts of trust in someone *else's* engineering
expertise, then expect it, after being assembled by yet another A.N.Other to
    work faultlessly.

    Best of luck I say...

Not if he's sliding down the road. That takes at least 80m. DAMHIKIJKOK?

Not in the wet in a sudden panic stop situation.

The K1100 ABS only cut in twice. Both times it saved grief.

Me, I'll trust the ABS on a pissy wet road in a panic :)

What used to amaze me was how hard you had to brake to get the ABS to
    come on in the dry.

On my early Ks I couldn't get the front ABS to come on at all in the dry
due to the two-handed front brake. I always suspected it didn't actually
work and the canister was a dummy.

I haven't had the ABS on the B12 kick in at all under normal riding.
I did try it on the back brake once, in the wet, just to see what
happened. I was expecting the kind of juddering through the pedal
that you get with ABS on a car, but it was a curious lurching
sensation - the pulses were around half a second apart. Strange.

I'm happy it's there - it doesn't seem to interfere with normal
riding, and it may just save my bacon if I have to do something
panicky in the wet. I'm not looking forward to bleeding the bastard
    thing, mind.

Did you ever find out if the white helmeted ones were going to take
things further, or forget it all?

ABS saves you in the sudden and unexpected situation, those when riders
    often go down.
Ducati's ABS2 takes it to the limit of tyre adhesion beating 1G.

Well, yes. I think we sorted that out c2001 just after darsy and I bought
ABS equipped bikes. Just thought I'd have a re-run for the entertainment
    value. Got some biguns, too.

I'm hardly the greatest authority, but IWHT that was where the real
