I'm going to deliberately set a bike up to fail the MOT. 100% record still officially stands.

The ST3 was my first failure for several years. The last one before that was a CG125 that got failed for having an exhaust that was too loud, which was a fairly remarkable achievement. It was a pattern exhaust from David Silver too, not something with no baflles at all. Mind you the tester was a first-grade **** who made it his mission to find ways of failing bikes (probably to generate repair business). At the time it was the only testing station in the area so it still got a fair bit of custom for a while. However, after that experience I decided that in future I would ride the 10 miles to a more customer-friendly dealer for all of my motorcycle needs. Not surprisingly, after pissing off most of its users the local testing station closed eventually along with the motorcycle dealer it was attached to.

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, The Older <closes door to Holy Sepulchre) Surely, one who can induce the One True Motorcycle to give forth a sound, a sound that is so mighty that the tester of the MOT quails and is brought to naught before it is a true believer? Can we not say that yea, thought he may have strayed in more recent times, he is, nonetheless, worthy? I propose him! Who here will second?
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Salad Dodger In a spiritual sense? More than can pass through the eye of the Blackwall Tunnel on a wet Wednesday in November. Go in peace, my son.
It strikes me Loz, that there's a small business getting started here for you. You've got the skill and the equipment, all you need is a small unit, and you're an independent specialist mechanic.
There's the rub - you try finding any small business unit that will get planning permission for motorcycle trade use around here, and especially in an area where customers will travel to. There are none, I've already searched and had an estate agent search too. There are a couple out on farms in the middle of nowhere, places that even I have trouble finding. No matter how good you are you'll have a problem with people not bothering because they cba to take a trip that far out to have minor repairs done. Looking at it there's no problem doing the work, I'm confident and experienced enough to take on just about anything, and I have most of the kit to do it too, but I dunno if there's enough work out there to support me and the overheads. Just doing the occasional one or two for friends from home sees me ok for now, and keeps the wolf from the door.
