And yet one can buy (and ride) the even more powerful 3 and 4 wheel
electric scooters which one sees oldies using all the time (I think even
    Johno has one these days!).

It seems to me that either the electric scooters should also be against
the law (ie they don't bypass registration laws) or that the Segways
    should bypass them.

What exactly is the reason that a 4 wheel and 3 wheel electric scooter
is ok and a 2 wheel one isn't?

Also the 179X2 came with the HD.
As well as the 186S with the HK, HT & HG.
The early 173 and 202 (as in the HQ series) were still red motors, it
wasn't until later they were painted blue and the black ones were later
    still.
Some of the red motors had the longer crank.

I never met an EH that didn't already have a 186 transplanted
into it. My Old Man's "Royal Umber" Special Sedan had a 186
and an HR disk brake front end, as did my "Portsea Blue"
Premier wagon with a genuine ex-factory centre console.

Sure, but most came new with the 149, even the 179 was not that
common, probably less than 10% of EHs. What people did with them later
comes under "playing with toys". I only knew them as new and standard.
I drove a new EH panel van as a company vehicle for a couple of years.

Ahhh lack of mechanical brakes, that'd do it.

I wonder about those electric wheelchairs without mechanical brakes though?

So a Segway used by a mobility impaired person as a '2 wheel mobility
    scooter' should be exempt then?

Sorry, but it all seems just a bit inconsistent to me...

    Should yes, does, no.

There is a very specific definition of what consititutes a mobility
scooter. A segway doesn't fit it. Nor does a razr scooter with an engine.
<snort> and you're expecting me to believe this fake surprise you're
    putting on ?

These laws are written by politicians and bureaucrats, if you want logic
and consistency get people who are being pulled 47 different ways to
    write them.

Of course they're inconsistent - they want every law to make them
popular and hence get re-elected, which is a recipe for inconsistency.

I did read the whole thread. You said you suspect that people are
inadvertently breaking the law. I asked which law. When you said
"breaking the law" were you not referring to a particular law? If you
were, this is where you reply with the law you were referring to... if
you weren't you'll just tell me to learn something nonspecific again I
    suspect.
