This morning at the Nurbergring

At the Nurburgring this morning I put in a very respectable (in my eyes,
anyway) 7'56 lap on my stock Aprilia RSV-1000R without crashing (although I
did ground it out a couple of times).

Does anybody else have PS2 skills so tragically mismatched to their RL
    ones[1]?

For the record on my super trick CBR1000RR I could only manage 7'45
(although I did have a minor 200mph get-off) and I gave up on the ZX-10R
completely, because the damn thing was so unstable on the brakes that I just
kept crashing it at the end of every fast section.

Maybe I should go to work now.

[1] Perhaps Ace, who could probably put in a respectable lap of the 'ring,
    but doesn't know what a PS2 is.

    I haven't played a PS/2/ for ages[1].

On a related note, my xbox 360's just gone the way of the "ring of
death", just in time for Christmas. So a couple of my expected
pressies are going to be unusable on Christmas morning. Cunting thing.

Still, the PS3 and Wii are still working fine.

[1] I still have one, and an xbox and a gamecube. The PS2 and gamecube
are for sale if anyone's interested. I'm thinking about converting the
xbox into a media stream player.

Yeah. On the PS2 I utterly rock around the island. In reality I've only
    been there as a pedestrian.

As for the two MotoGP wins I had in the 2004 season...

Neither have I. My lack of use of it is the main reason I'm not really
interested in getting a PS3. I'm sure GT5 is lovely and whizzy and all, but
it's a bit pricey for the 2 weeks it would take me to get sick of it.

Seems to be the way of the 360. My lad, who's been a PS2 user for years
bought a 360 about 2 months ago and it's currently in Poland being repaired
under warranty. His pal's is in Ireland being repaired under waranty and
they're both told that it'll take at least a month before they see them
    again.
So is the PS3 worth the money would you say?
    Or a cup holder?

Of the 7-8 losers[1] in my office that have 360s[2], all of them have had
the ring of death. One of them, 3 times.

I used my PS2 the other night, first time in about a year. Looking on
Amazon, I could get some great games at next to no money, which would
easily tie me over for 3 years or more. Probably just in time for the PS4
    / Xbox 480?

    [1] They're not losers because they have a 360. They're just losers.
    [2] No, I don't have one.

  13. <fingers crossed> My 360 is still going strong, and it's just about out
    of warranty....

Been played a fair bit as well, Oblivion/Assassins Creed/BioShock to
completion, PGR3 a lot, and some crap like Table Tennis got ebayed[1]
pretty quickly. Currently working through Mass Effect, which is turning
into one of the best games I've ever played[2].

If it dies after Mass Effect I'll probably buy a PS3.

[1] Bought for a tenner, sold for a tenner, seems true of lots of
    console games. Ebay rocks!
[2] Although obviously not as good as Elite on the Speccy.

They're covered against ring of death for 3 years now by M$, not just the
original one. Or have you had it almost 3 years you mean?

    I can recommend Halo 3, PGR 4, Forza 2 :)

Ah... I was also wondering about your winter equipement... damn cold in
    Nurburgring today :)

To answer your question, yes, my 13yo son would probably ridicule anyone
here (at least on MotoGP3), but his experience of RL motorized
two-wheelers is quite slim (if I don't count it riding pillion with me).

  17. Oooh didn't know that. Excellent. Don't really like the Halo series
much, ditto Gears of War. And I couldn't see PGR 4 and Forza 2 as big
enough steps from PGR3 to invest, I played the demos of both and
couldn't see a point to buying them when I'd played PGR3 to death -
    ditto MotoGP 6 to 7.

I've recently bought a Toshiba HD-DVD player rather than the noisy 360
add-on[1], so I've no dependancies on keeping the 360. I suppose when
the next GTA comes out that might change, and Fable looks good, and Alan
    Wake...

[1] Now my 720p TV isn't good enough!

Course I do. IBM's (largely-failed) attempt at redefining the PC
market based on what they thought was a brilliant new architecture.

Not sure I ever saw the particular combination of Laplink and
token-ring network to which you refer, though, and nearly 8 minutes to
get round seems a bit excessive. No wonder Ethernet became the more
    common standard.
