This R1 front end...........

    The 10mm is how much travel isn't used. So the distance between the
    cable tie & the bottom of the forkleg (the 'bumpstop'). You don't need
    to know how much travel /is/ used, or how far the cable tie moves.

    Yeah, got it, my manual says turn the screw all the way clockwise counting
    clicks, then count clicks anti-clockwise, clockwise decreases damping.

    Right, just took it out & what a difference right away, had to slacken off a
    bit of front preload, then wind a bit back in, but crikey it feels so much
    better.

    Factory settings apart from both pre-loads. Fely bang on fro road riding

    What was the rear sag before you changed it, just out of interest?

    Not a lot to be honest. The ring selector was 2 notches harder.

    Feels fantastic now, the front was wound into just 2 rings showing, now it's
    just a smidge under 6

    Following Krstys advice mines as tight as a nuns chuff now :)

    It'll needed a bit of twiddling for track, but so what, i have all the
    optimum settings written down :)
