Twice, at least, in my case if coveting thy neighbour's bike/car is at

    Heh:

"Roman Catholics are also urged to make the sign of the cross before
    setting off on a journey."

My Uncle (a Priest) and my Aunts (one, a nun) used to do that all the
time when they got in the cage with me. I'm not sure how to read that...

  7. I was amused by the dichotomy in 'automobiles can be "an occasion of
sin" - particularly when they are used for dangerous overtaking or for
    prostitution.'

Or even dangerous overtaking in order to secure a decent looking prozzer :)

Whereas your 'sprig of heather' seemed to be fucking __welded__ in the air
    vents in your old 740i.
<see? the heather is still in the vent. I simply can't be going quite that
    fast>

Presumably as a substitute for better driving.

I'm reminded of the ending to a joke:

"So why didn't you save me, Lord, after I had shown so much faith?"
"For ****'s sake! I sent you a lifeboat, two cargo ships and a fucking
helicopter. How much more saving did you need?"

    heh.

I can honestly say that, in the dry, if the 740iL started to unload from
the tyres, then I generally assumed I was pissed, and slowed down.

I *still* can't work out how they made a car that heavy handle like
that. I mean, the Saab is a splendid beast round the bends. But then
it sodding well should be. The 740 had no right to be able to do half
the things I made it do, yet it did them, and did them without complaint
    or fuss.

The 7-series of any era aresimply amazing. Period. Nothing that heavy should
ever be able to do the things that I've done in my even older 735. Castle
Combe BMW drivers club trackday for one.
    Pitstop scene:
<Sir, your brakes are on *fire*!>
"That's ok I've only got 3 more laps to go..."

I still hanker after a later one, with the more curvy looks (Burnt has a
730 in that shape, IIRC), or that mental, 6.0l Alpina they did in the
later shape, of which only 84 ever made it to the UK, but I would guess
that the later ones, burdened with "safety" features, aren't as
involving to drive. The 740iL wasn't perfect, but it remains the single
best sub £2000 car I've ever bought, by a *wide* margin.

    you want this: http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/HTML/alpina_b12_60_e38.html
    Oh Yusss indeedy.

It is worth noting, however, that without your skilled efforts, it would
have scalped me in servicing costs. Ta muchly, yet again.

As I've said before, it is therapy to me. Anytime (as long as it's not
    French. Spit!).

TBF to the RC's for a moment (not a comfortable feeling) they had two
    rules here:

1: don't wear condoms - which appears to have been popular
2: don't feel obliged to **** everything that might have a pulse -
    which wasn't.

That's the badger. One came up on eBay a few months back. It didn't
make reserve, and I absolutely didn't email the owner with a derisory
    offer. Just in case, like.

    Er ... if I had.

    Which I didn't.

    Yeah...riiiiiight. Of course. Mmmmm.
heh. I can't see me ever buying a french car again, unless it's as a
    cheap runabout.

That said, I've yet to lose money on a french car :)

I'll wager you don't lose money any many deals at all. The 'Thor' factor at
    work again methinks.

Almost, it's a 735; the extra 500cc is important (to me).

Must admit that whilst it's a nice drive and there's little wrong with
it (80k miles, body good, interior good, only needs new rear disks in a
few thou)... I really wish I'd waited for a good 740 'cos the extra
900cc from the 4.4l v8 might have been interesting.

    Still, it's fast enough.

There's a cheapish place in Brizzle; Bavarian Autos, the bloke who runs
it (one man band) is a really nice guy and isn't too expensive. Fucking
awful narrow roads to get to it though in a barge like the 735.

Christ, I'll NOT be a "Migrants and Itinerant People" then.

Obviously migrants and itinerant people are good god fearing catholics
otherwise the council wouldn't have been seconded to us less god fearing
    road going transgressors.
