Throttled by Kawasaki

I'm currently rebuilding my GPz900 and I've been told by Peter Stevens that
Kawasaki are no longer making throttle cables for that bike.

WTF??? It's only one of the most popular bikes they ever made.

Looks like anyone who has one will have to get throttle cables custom
made from now on. Anyone know any cable makers in Melb?

    Thanks.

Hey, that's what I was going to say... except I'd have put them in Heatherdale
rather than Mitcham seeing how that railway station is right round the
corner... heck they're closer to Ringwood than Mitcham in any case... the
Mexican restaurant next door isn't too bad if you're hungry. :)

The last time I broke a throttle cable (CBR1000F) I replaced the inner
with one from a bicycle brake cable. Works just fine, and cost about
    $2.

Most bike wreckers are able to make new cables to suit. Just take the old one in and they make one
to match. I think they use your old cover bits and replace the inner cable.

Bound to be alot cheaper than getting an original part. And would do the same job.

  10. Peter Stevens is pulling your chain (or cable in this case). You can still
get them as a genuine part.

That having been said, why would you, when you can get them aftermarket a
    lot cheaper.

I'm in Seville in the Yarra Valley east of Melb.

I'll probably try and track down a second hand cable from a wrecker
and get the innards replaced. That way I'll always have a spare to use
    while I get one fixed.

Why would you believe anything p*t*r st*v*ns tells you?
Why would you buy things from p*t*r st*v*ns if there exists an
alternative supplier elsewhere in the galaxy?[1]

There are lots of places that make control cables, mostly cheaper and
    better than original.

Find a bike repairer who *doesn't* make most of his money from selling
new bikes. Ask about a local cable maker.

    Moike

[1] What, me bitter? after all this time? Of course not. I can even
sometimes walk past p*t*r st*v*ns without spitting and snarling these days.

They are a major Kawasaki dealer. Why would they not be able
to get them when other Kawasaki dealers can? Why would they
bullshit me when it deprives them of a easy sale?

    Mistake one.

You expect logic from Peter Stevens.

Maybe I'm missing something here. I haven't been riding for the last 4 years
so had no reason to do/buy anything bike related. Any particular reason
    for this?

They don't see a lot of money in keeping a parts inventory for older bikes?

Maybe Kwakka don't make them any more, but a half-decent mechanic
interested in maintaining older bikes would have sourced an alternative
    by now.

They can make more money selling new bikes and tarted up used bikes to
    unsuspecting fools[1].

    Moike

[1] who don't think to check that there is oil in the 'new' bike until
after they have ridden it for a week........

Ask yourself, why would a dealer of brand-spanking new Kawasaki motorcycles give a damn about
keeping an older fleet of Kwakkas on the road? And why would they put themselves out to obtain 1
throttle cable for a bike that isn't as commonplace as it once was, for which they might make
(relatively speaking) only a few bucks.

They're a new bike dealer. They only offer a spare parts division because they feel they should. Not
    because they really want to.

Plus their sales droids' customer service skills need alot of work [1]

[1] The Elizabeth St shop has to be the worst for this. Ask for assistance with a jacket or a helmet
and watch yourself be hand-balled from droid to droid.
