Was it Douglas Bader when his legs grew back?

    Right.

    Right.

Look, there's going to be a(t least one) ProperFuckedEngine(tm) at the
end of all this, isn't there?

    Well? Isn't there?

    So.

I have fucked about with engines for as long as I can remember, and I
cannot ever remember taking a ProperFuckedEngine(tm) and a (within silly
limits) decent budget and just making it Right. Wivva capital R. And no
"Ohshitsohshitohshitohshitohshitohshit I've got to ride this to work on
    Monday or I'm SACKED!" deadline.

And I'd like to. Just once. Properly.

So, can I buy the dead one from you?

    Please?

I'll even come and take it out and away.

Heh. I'll deliver it, Nigel. FOC, natch.

There'll be an RF motor at some point, too - the one in which I stripped
second gear on the way home from Konkrete Krewing.

    Smug. Overpaid. Wanker.

We've done this before, the last time fairly recently. I know you had a
knock on the noggin, but you rmemory is fading faster than mine -
especially considering that phrase came about specifically in relation
to you and a couple of others.

Times have changed, old man. My mate Jamie keeps trying to get me to do
spanner work on his TZR250 and RGV250 race bikes, but I just walk past
them with my index fingers making a cross sign. One day I may take the
TZR out for a session on a trackday with him on my CBR, but there's
almost no way I'll own another LC/YPVS/TZR or similar bike for the road
or track - the TS250C is all the 2-strokes I need.

I'd not seen a full description of EXUP before but here it is for
    everyones enjoyment :

At low engine speeds the wave pressure within the pipe network is low.
A full oscillation of the Helmholtz resonance occurs before the
exhaust valve is closed, and to increase low-speed torque, large
amplitude exhaust pressure waves are artificially induced. This is
achieved by partial closing of an internal valve within the exhaust —
the EXUP valve — at the point where the four primary pipes from the
cylinders join. This junction point essentially behaves as an
artificial atmosphere. The alteration of the pressure at this point
controls the behavior of reflected waves at this sudden increase in
area discontinuity. Closing the valve increases the local pressure,
inducing the formation of larger amplitude negative reflected
expansion waves. A servo motor controlled by the ECU opens and shuts
the valve. The EXUP valve operation goes from being almost fully
closed at idle speed, through to being fully open at 9000 to 11000 RPM
