Right, as W7 hasn't got a mail proghram i can be arsed looking for, i
decided to get into the 18th century & download T'bird.

    |Found my way through the settings ok, a bit shitty but do-able.

I want to be able to thread on a date basis, how does one doe this, i
can threaD, or date, but not both?

How does one mark a thread for watching like OE?

    Nige.

OS X does not appear to allow that.

I had to sort it by date recieved etc, but the watch thing only puts a
little eye on the htread so is very easy to miss. OE shows the thread
    red etc.

Well you can do that as well? I'm honestly having trouble working out
why I ever wanted thread by date. Alphabetical works just fine.
Assuming you only have unread messages, anyway.

Personally I don't think the eye is easy to miss but wibble flip.

Now, just wait for TB3 to get out of RC mode ....
