Had a great ride up the thunderbolts way and oxley highway saturday/sunday
(knocked over 1000kilometres in a day and a half) with my mate on his
    gixxer750 (im on a baby 250cc bandit)

Anybody that aint done this run (NSW) get of your arses its brilliant!....
the thunderbolts way is really great for scenery, and the oxley highway is
twistie after twistie on A1 road for AGES...... just bring plenty of warm
gear to wear at the moment, dropped to -10 at walcha on saturday night
(stayed in a pub for 30bucks for the both of us which included lockup garage
for the bikes) and the bikes wouldnt start the next morning cause they
needed defrosting in the sun for a while :b

I made a clip here http://members.iinet.net.au/~daniel54/clip.wmv it should
stream in media player, sorry about the quality but I arnt much of a video
editor (squished it for size reasons) but i did manage to add music ;)

PS the clip is from the oxley highway - on a homemade tank mount which wont
bloody hold the camera properly lol

if I remember the sign down before the Long Flat pub(what a great
rally that USED to be) says 54klms of winding road.
We stayed in a pub just the west side of the little bridge and to the
north.. TOP place, they stayed open all night for us, so we went back
2 times a yr for 3 yrs, was an annual run!

Brings back some good memories! Top speed run from Walcha to the start
of the twisties on oxley is awesome.

What was fuel price at 1/2 way house now? $1.19?

I didnt fuel up at gingers creek (so didnt see the price of fuel there) made
it from walcha to longflat with not much to spare fuelwise lol.

I know the sign you mean http://members.iinet.net.au/~daniel54/sign.jpg
theres another similar to it after gingers which says 20 somthing more kms
    of twisties too :)

I took a couple of photos here http://danielsa70.instantlogic.com if your
interested... but I didnt take many,,,as it meant i had to stop riding for a
minute! (see under thunderbolts and oxley menu on left)

    Hi Dan,

Yup - bloody great ride that. I once lived in Wauchope so got to know the
road very well - sadly not on a bike though in those days - perhaps why I'm
still around these days! (Young and silly... you know the grade...).

The last time we did this run (about a yr ago), we left Gloucester in great
sunshine with a group (Kate the Rake, Glenn and Alx and of course Lisa on
the back of my XX). About 30 km before Walcha, we rode into a hell of a
snow storm and got into town looking like snowmen (and women). We later
heard that it had been the lowest recorded temp in Walcha in 40 years!
Still have the shot of Glenn sitting on the ground in the cafe, directly in
front of the heater trying to regain feeling in his extremities (that was
    plural...).

Glad you had fun and I'm sure you'll have the need to head back there some
day. I love all of that road, but for me, the spin from Seaview to Wauchope
is pretty cool, probably because I know it so well. :)

I lived there too for a couple years a while back! I worked at Campbells
Autos a while there - Had never headed out along the oxley though as I was
bikeless as well at that stage - Probably a good thing I didnt have a bike
for the same reason as you
I think this will be my first and last trip to walcha until the weather
starts to warm up a bit! specially after reading that ahahah
Definaltly am going to do it again, and again, and again! My favourite bit
is probably on the colder/shady side of the mountain after gingers, with the
hairpin and nice downsloped road where I can really give the 250 a
hammering, (its alot slower going back up on a 250 lol)

PS Biggus - My mate was on the prowl that night, but failed to pickup much
to his dismay lol - I told him the locals didnt need girls as there was a
truck parked outside full of sheep ;-)

You know that first sign lies anyway, it's not 45km, it is actually more
like 80 or 90km from memory. I did it last Easter and worked out the
twisties last for much longer. That sign pretty much only refers to the very
tight ones (all second gear) up till Gingers creek, not the ones further on
    that open up (45,55,65) corners.

    should

may be its the paranoid conspiracier in me

but I wouldn't publicly release a video with you full name as the
copyrighter when you cross double white lines and break the speed limit.I
believe evidence like that has been used again people before if you believe
A Current Affair and the like

good video all the same, but next time, tape a thick bit of foam across the
mic, will cut down on the wind noise

....not to mention the police coming down on you like a ton of bricks for
holding up Taragos in the twisties.
Nah, they just get some footage from the USA and play it backwards to make it
look like the traffic is all right hand drive.

Eek never realised moviemaker was embedding my name in the clip :(
With the wind noise, Ive tried everything including wrapping the whole
camera in glad wrap! (which tears quickly) The noise is actually coming in
through around the lens on the camera I think - tis a canon digital camera
not really designed for wind blast I guess lol

    Cheers

Hmmmmm, I feel the need for a summer run ;-) Damn, that signs so good Im

Perspex infront of lens. there would have to be a MUTE function for
the mic somewhere in the camera

  18. That'd be Bob, the publican not the slut! He's an all round nice bloke and
very biker friendly. A couple of the locals also ride and have a bit of a
social club. Fuckin' shearers can drink too!

I've stayed there, I think! On the corner, on the road out to Port.
Good place, didn't see Pete's photo though (and no-one pulled anyone).
