Anyone waiting to buy a shiny new bike, in particular those utilising
significant quantities of Titanium [1] [2], may have to wait. It
seems those wacky Chinese have bought up the world's supply of the
stuff for some time to come, mainly for military use [3].

[1] Yep, 9th most abundant element on the face of the planet, but it's
a real pain to extract & purify, which is why it's so expensive.
    [2] GSX-R 1000 K5 anyone?
[3] Am I right to be worried?

World production of Titanium is about 100,000 tonnes p.a.

It's oxide is used as a white pigment. Maybe they're re-painting the
    Great Wall?

Titanium oxide rather than purified metal I'd assume.
