FFS, that'll cost about 500 quid to repair including getting the tank painted. -- Lozzo SV650S K5 (sold, awaiting collection) ZX-7R P4 (for sale) SR250 Special (for sale) CBR600F-W trackbike SR250 SpazzTrakka, I see a bright new future, where chickens can cross the road with no fear of having their motives questioned
You don't even have it written off. Tell the insurance company that you'll accept a cheque for a substantial amount of the repair cost and repair it yourself, but only if they agree not to write it off. I did this with the SV last January and came up 800 quid in pocket and a better than before bike after the repair I did.
What does your insurance company think of the colour? Can I have a look at the pictures again anyway? They amuse me.
This is an option. Got to wait for NiG to give the final yes/no. There appears to be an argument now between DirectChoice's contractor (BLD) and NiG. BLD collected the bike and have taken it to Bournemouth. DirectChoice then phoned me to ask if I'd phoned the underwriter. I told them no, I phoned DirectChoice on the "If you need to make a claim you MUST ring this number" number to make the claim (seemed reasonable given the description) but that goes through to BLD or whoever, but for some reason they didn't tell the underwriter. BLD informed DirectChoice that I was making a claim but not NiG... no idea why. So after having gone through all the points of damage with DirectChoice/BLD I then had to do the same with with NiG. NiG want to recover the bike from BLD in Bournemouth and ship it to Dorchester to CW Motorcycles. Never heard of them, but I'm assuming they're some approved dealer. Dorchester is five hours drive away from me. NiG say CW Motorcycles will ring me tomorrow sometime. Got a bit confused as to who was doing what and when I got home today I had a letter waiting from BLD saying they are dealing with the claim with NiG (but they're obviously not doing it very efficiently) so called BLD and asked them what was going on. I *think* I'm leaving it with BLD seeing as they've got it at the moment, but may ring NiG tomorrow after speaking with CW Motorcycles in Dorchester to ask who is doing what with it or something. My brain hurts. Having used Carole Nash for my insurance in the past it was pretty much one phone call and everything was sorted and they did everything at my local dealer, Alford Bros., who I trust to do decent work. DirectChoice's claims process seems rather muddled from what has happened today. I'm half expecting them to phone me tomorrow to ask me if I know where my bike is as they can't find it.
Depending on what NiG say I might be able to do a lot of the work myself. Most of it is bolting new bits on, but I'd have to throw it at a dealer to check the headstock/bar and have a look at both of the brakes as it was an absolute **** to move today. I suppose I could buy a baglux tank cover (I assume they make Orange Triumph Tiger flavour ones) if I didn't want to look at the tank, or I could just leave it scratched. I think the tank is plastic so it's not going to rust. New battery as it'll have been discharged to the point of being unable to start once last month and it lacked enough charge to even power the beep on the datatool by yesterday afternoon so is probably due to be binned by now. Also, probably best to get the alternator or whatever it is on a bike looked at just in case Oh, and I might as well get the datatool disabled while I'm at it. And then insure it TPO instead of Fully Comp.
Hopew you get it sorted, FWIW you've just convinced me to stay with CN so long as my next quote is in the same ballpark as last time.
The only reason I changed insurers from Auntie Carole was that last year I got a £270 FC renewal from them, good - thought I. Then when a year passed I got a £460 FC reneral from them, WTF - thought I. I hadn't made a claim, hadn't changed jobs, hadn't moved house, hadn't modified the machine at all, hadn't got any points or anything. I gave them a call and asked them why I was £200 worse off than the last renewal and they weren't able to tell me. They checked through the details to make sure everything was right, even did a new quote and it wasn't any better. Perhaps Auntie Carole used the Future Goggles(tm) to see that I might be more expensive to them than in past years.
They love it so much they actually pay me for the pleasure of insuring it. I suspect the insurance company feels the same way. YGM. -- Krusty '03 Tiger 955i '02 MV Senna (for sale) '96 Tiger (for sale) '79 Fantic Hiro 250 (for sale) '81 Corvette (for sale)
That's kind of okay with me, not sure about me fixing it myself though as I know slightly less than **** all, and my only fixing was essentially just bolting new stuff o nthe ER-5 when I threw it down the road or the B6 when bits fell off. The place in Bournemouth where it is currently dwelling called me this afternoon to confirm the points of damage I'd put on my report and said that I hadn't pointed out a 'lump' of metal missing on the swingarm. I hadn't really looked at the swingarm. I do have several photos of the RHS of the bike on my iPhone but it was dark and I can't see anything obvious on those photos but the dark evening + black swingarm aren't the best combinations, plus there's a lack of any close ups of the swinger. BLD say they're not comfortable with filling/painting the swingarm and say they would like it replaced with a new one. It must have got bashed on the road during the five second slide on the side. I bet a new or decent condition replacement Tigger swingarm isn't going to be cheap.
At the risk of being accused of wanting a piece of your arse, I'll help you patch it up if needs be. There's one on eBay for £39.95 BIN + postage, right now... Whatever... the salvage is almost certainly going to be worth more than what you'd be charged for it, so I'd now be asking for the return of the bike to your home address with immediate effect, as you've less chance of being fucked over by the insurance company all the time you have possession of it. As it's still your bike until they settle the claim, you have the right to ask for it to be returned to you... and this applies if it's on finance as well, as you're still responsible for the debt until it's cleared. I did this recently when my car, having had a little scuffle with another one, was carted off from the approved repairers to a salvage company before we'd even discussed settlement figures / salvage prices etc. Repaired it myself (1) for something like £1800, and you can't tell from the outside not least because I repanelled it with used panels in the same colour... not bad considering the repair estimate was £6.5k. Worst case scenario, yours will need to go to a place not too far from here to get the frame jigged - last time I checked, this was between £100 to £150. That, or you just sell it as it is and make a bit back on it that way. (1) I cheated a little - I paid a bodyshop to do the 'jigging' that was needed.
Thanks for the offer. I'll keep it in mind when I get a yes/no from NiG which I imagine will be next week. BLD say they're waiting for a visit from the loss adjuster. As soon as he's visited then I imagine paperwork will be filled out and I'll get the ins co to deliver the bike back here to my address or if there's not a reasonable chance of it starting again to a local dealer who can remove/deactivate the datatool as if it's a Cat C or D then I'll only be insuring it Third Party in the future anyway. BLD also said the fuses (wherever they might be) are all normal, but the bike does not respond to the starter. This is how it was after it was thrown down the road - it's as if the starter button isn't pressed.
Yes, I did get a handbook with the alarm and with the bike. When I threw the bike down the road on Sunday I must admit that as I don't carry them around with me in my pocket, so I didn't have them to hand.
I spoke with BLD in Bournemouth earlier on and they've sent an estimate to NiG (underwriter) stating a figure around £2,900 to fix the Tigger. Therefore it looks like a proper write-off at the moment. NiG say they should visit by Thursday, so if they haven't got back to me by Thursday afternoon I'll give them a prod.
