Of course, there are several branches of Benfield Motors, the one you
used might not be the one I was referring to anyway, it was a few years
ago, it might all have changed since then, it might have been a one-off
failing, other disclaimers are available, etc., etc.

It would have been a one off loss of £800 cost of bike, £150 police
recovery to compound, £10 per day storage charges and far more important
the hassle and cost of getting the bike out of the compound. I would
have had to travel back from Edinburgh to London and hire a van. It was
starting to exceed my £250 excess by quite a lot and I might still be
picking up a lump of scrap.

No point in having insurance if you can't use it. I don't need to worry
my pretty little head about the renewal until June.

I had a prod around with one of the comparison engines, and got a bunch
of quotes with and without the various factors. The claim itself added a
chunk more than the photos. I forget the precise amounts, but the overall
difference between clean/no claim and 2x3pt/claim was around 30%.

Definitely not at fault, since I was 30 miles away from the car, which
was parked in a marked parking bay when it was reversed into from a drive.

I'm in south-east Kent, the bike is in Bournemouth. That's three
hours each way. Can't be arsed taking a 350 mile round trip.

If I actively make a 350 mile round trip with a spanner to get them
off then the underwriter may well knock the extra £200 off of the
value. How much am I likely to get on ebay for two panniers and a top
box both with some scratches? Offset that by the cost of fuel and a
six hour journey is it really worth the extra it might give me on top
    of the £200 loss?

    Fold paper into aeroplane.

They do seem to be creeping up a little, don't they? Yesterday I had a
quote for my XV1900: fully comp was £5,689.00 (with Equity Red Star).

I ended up with Motorcycle Direct, who wanted £103 for the same cover
    (same excess too).

Call the dealer. He may be happy to remove them and post them on for a
    consideration. Use your well-known charm.

Stare at the piece of paper without touching it. Then look at the salesman
and say, "What's that?" When he explains, pick it up, look at the numbers,
then write "You're having a fucking giraffe" on it and slide it back to him.

Is a primary cage like a primary glider, except with bars on the windows,
    and wheels?

No. Primary as in "driver not grown up yet".

You mean he's not reached his full size yet? How much bigger will he get?

Well, they've cancelled that horse. They'll just get Nick to stand
alongside the A2 in his birthday suit.

Alongside? If he's that big, he can straddle it. The Colossus of Dover,
    pointing out to sea.

It'll certainly give the French something to think about.

No. They won't. Their valuation is based on replacement price, not
scrap value, and they won't have even factored in the luggage
mountings, even if they actually noticed them, which is doubtful.

Ebay? Why bother, you've already got one interested party on here.

In some cases, it's the simple fact that a claim's been made. Size doesn't
    matter. (f'narr)

Have they? I'd have preferred to see a huge cow anyway, with big
    udders.

If the dealer can't be bothered but will allow removal I'm in
Christchurch & can happily remove said frames ready for UR transport
    onwards.

I think it's more of a depot than a dealer.
