BGN emerged from their own little world to say

Buy an older Tiger or R-GS [1] and insure TPFT

The lower value may reduce the premium. Although, in the eyes of the
underwriter, most of the risk is the collateral damage should you crash.

[1] I'd say Vstrom but they don't do old, yet.

    Possibly not
">9" means "Greater than 9"(as I'm sure you are aware). You don't have a
full licence yet and that's normally what they're on about....

Your answers indicate, to me, that you have passed CBT at some point before
passing your test over 9 years ago but you haven't ridden on the road for
    the last 5 years.

If the last question had been "In the last 5 years, how many years have you
been riding" I would have answered Yes,0 and 0. It's because they put the
"full licence" bit in that last question - it made me think that they must
be giving credit for provisional licence riding - after all, someone who
has been riding with L plates for 15 years must get more credit than someone
who has never been on a bike before. Surely? (Although I haven't anyway,
so it's still a stupid way of them asking).

When it says how long have you held you motorcycling licence you need
    to put zero years.

It was an EoSM thing. I was sitting on dwb's 'Strom and said I like
it, and someone said (can't remember who) "it suits you" which
obviously meant "Don't call it a gay motorcycle" followed. Then I
reached down and grabbed the crash bars and said something along the
lines of "It's nice to have something big and strong to grab hold of.

But if they made the questions simple and wrote them unambiguously, in plain
English, how would they be able to use your answering a question on the
proposal form incorrectly as a get-out clause in the event of an accident,
    eh?

If it's *that* gay, it will be *very* sure of itself with the "lower stuff,"
    surely

    Good thinking, batman.

    To insure this bike:
    <http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-TRIUMPH-...82330958QQcategoryZ36093QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem>

....Would cost me £514.16 TPF&T according to Confused.com's
DirectChoice policy, excluding European cover. To have it covered
TPF&T inc. European cover would be £650.

To insure a year older and 100cc smaller Tiger 855i
    (<http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bargain-of-th...83093960QQcategoryZ36093QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem>)
it would cost about £40 *less* than my current ER-5 policy to insure
(feeding it licence for one year, NCB for one year), but the European
cover is limited to 30 days (may only be TPO) This wouldn't be too
much of an issue. Should I purchase a similar bike in the future then
I will look more deeply into it.

Thanks for your help, I hadn't looked up any Tiger quotes.
Looks like my original "on paper" No#1 choice of a Tiger could work
    out best after all.

The Tiger's suspension is more off-road biased (i.e. softer), but has
been stiffened over the years. It got harder in 2004 then again in
2005. Uprated springs are available from various sources if you'll be
sticking to tarmac only. As for throwing it around bends, it is just a
confidence thing. You can take ridiculous liberties with them once you
realise they'll sort themselves out if you let them.

I'm a bit surprised by your 'revving' comments. Triples typically like
it more than twins, especially twins that have been (de)tuned for
torque. If you didn't take the Tig up to the rev limiter, you should
have - they like it up there.

    [snip]

You can throw it a bends. It sounds like either the rear spring settings
(under the seat) needed a tweak and/or tyre pressure adjustment. It is
quite surprising just how much a Tiger will do going round bends.

Just did that. Bit of a surprise - made no difference.

    Still £350 for a 2002 SV650S (£2500) and under £500 for a 2002 1000cc
V-Strom (£3500) - think I put the value a bit higher this time, hence
    the slightly higher premium.

    OK, let's play :)

    £675 for a 2003 VFR800 (£4500)
    £1300 for a 2004 GSXR1000 (£6000)
    £1500 for a 2005 999R (£8000)

Maybe I won't have to stick to a 600 machine after all (if I pass the
    test).

I really like my DL1000, even more so since I 'fixed' Suzuki's[1] FI
problem with a PowerCommander. It handles well off-road, Freeway and
    twisties[2].

    [1] Cunts
[2] Dragging pegs on the road, something I never had happen with the
    SV650.
