Time to face the facts

    well, yes.
Well, at the moment, speed is seen as dangerous, but dangerous as in
sexy. People like Brake and some other lobby groups and the government
themselves appear to be attempting to demonize speeding in the same
way they have already done with drink-driving.

i.e. in the 50s/60s, of course drink-driving was illegal, but people
did it regardless - since the 80s, it's been regarded as nearly as pad
    as paedophilia.

If Brake had their way, the general public would feel the same way
about speeding, and hence the likes of Kawasaki would be pressured to
not sell product by glamourising such an activity.

on a related note, I do like the tag line that Nissan have used on the
new 350Z: "Your mother will wish you'd bought a motorbike".

I completely agree with you, of course.

I was reading a futurology article earlier outlining the projected
latest date that we'll still be using fossil-fuel ICE-powered personal
transport (guestimated in the article around 2060), but I reckon
people love going fast so much, that even if we're limited to electric
powered trikes, someone will still find a way to actually have fun in
    the things.

well, some other futurologists reckon a singularity is only 15-20
years away, so it may be a non-issue.
online, but I can't seem to find it again.

There's lots of people spend a lot of time and effort searching for
UFOs as well, not to mention all the various god-squads around the
world, so nothing like this surprises me. Some people will beleive
    anything.

well, it's been talked about for 50 years or so, so it's not totally
    surprising.

It really only needs one or more from the following list before it's
    at least a possibility (IMO):

Strong AI, Quantum Computing, nano-scale replicators,
quantum-well-based programmable matter etc. etc. etc.

Since we're well on the way to having two of those already, who knows?

it isn't a question of "beleiving anything" - the concept of a
    singularity is a /theory/.

It's arguable that the renaissance and the industrial revolution were
similar events i.e. modern people really do think in fundamentally
different ways than, say, ancient mesopotamians.

My bad - I meant rear brake drums, not hubs.
I'm not sure really. It failed the MoT on "weak rear brakes", so I
assumed the auto adjusters were fecked & crawled underneath to adjust
them through the holes in the backplates. Except it hasn't got any
holes other than one to inspect the pad wear.

As the pads looked low, I decided to pull the drums off for a better
look. Except I don't know how to get the drums off. The (few) I've done
before have been held on by countersunk screws IIRC, but not the
Kangoo. I presume they're held on by the hub nut, but I haven't got a
socket to fit that, & even if I did, there's no release lever for the
pads; so I doubt the drums would come off anyway. I gave up at that
    point.
