I've done the inner coastal routes Alesund /Trondheim(ish) to Narvik on
a Grey Funnel Line luxury cruisers, eg:

They were wonderful, the crew just couldn't do anything for you.
Unbridled cosseting it was.
Oh how we looked forward to those parts of the passage that were
directly in the Arctic Ocean rather than the inshore side of the
islands, it being renowned for its millpond-like qualities in they
parts.

 

I have always felt that porn has no place in SF and Heinlein did it so
badly that all it does is reinforce my point.

Similar quality to the text, then.

 

The only reason I read it is because I was given the new translation
while recuperating from surgery. Story telling has come a long way
since it was written. Moby Dick is another classic novel that shows
its age. Great story, but a bit clumsy in ways. OTOH, anything by
Joseph Conrad is still amazing.

 

I suspect he's just playing Bonwick Bingo.

 

+1. It's a remarkable book, and he was a great loss having died at only
[checks] 24. I must hunt it down from Box 35C, or wherever, where too
many books are waiting for shelves, and re-read it.

With its own private helichopper service, too. I'm impressed by the
unboard swimming pool and the unshortage of personal transport for
various deck games.

I personally don't recognize any porn in those two books. Very different
morals yes, but not porn.

Different cultural norms in scifi is pretty common. I can only think of
Iain M. Banks with his Culture novels as an example at the moment but
I'm sure once my memory kicks in there will be loads.
