Tires

  1. Have been using BT020s on the ZX10, but the guy at the bikeshop recommended
    some Pirrelli something-or-other sports/sports-touring tires.

I never realised how much difference a set of tires could make. The turn in
    is soooooooooo much sharper.

On another topic, suspension setup. I'm too lazy to google, but, what effect
do the various suspension adjustments one can do make.

Ie; preload, high/low speed rebound and compression damping, etc.

Also, what effect will a heavier fork oil have compared to a lighter one?

And finally, a friend asked me on the weekend, and I had a vauge idea, but
not really a good one. How do gold-valves work?

  2. Oh, and while I'm in an asking questions mood (guess who got their news feed
back this morning!), what are next weeks Lotto numbers?

Of course any new set of tyres will give that effect. Handling
(particularly lightness of turn-in) gradually deteriorates as the tyre
squares off. New tyres the same as the old will give a very noticable
    improvement.
    No idea
They are more expensive. Expensive things work better.

My local Microsoft reseller tells me the same thing.

I switched from Bridgestone tyres to Pirelli tyres on my Blackbird. It made
the turn in a lot quicker as well. Its not just because the tyres are new,
it's because the Bridgestones have a flatter profile (from one sidewall across
to the other) than the Pirelli tyres. Speedo had a 10% error with
Bridgestones and 3-4% error with the Pirellis. If the tyres you got are the
Pirelli Corsa, expect to get about 1/2 the tyre life or less than you got from
the BT020 or if it's the Pirelli Dragon it wears at about the same rate as the
    BT020.

Well, I suppose 6 out of 42 is better odds. What makes you so sure that
neither 1 or 44 will come up?

And finally, a friend asked me on the weekend, and I had a vauge idea, but
"Gold Valves" are a trademark of Racetech, a suspension component
    manufacturer.

Your suspension's damping circuit(s) utilise valves which allow the
fluid (fork oil) to traverse them at different rates, hence damping the
suspension movement to lesser or greater degrees.

Depending on your suspension you can have the valves re-jigged (with
shims) or replaced entirely to suit your weight, bike and riding style.

Racetech also offer "Gold Valve emulators" which allegedly achieve the
same effect in older, telescopic style forks such as those I expect the
    ZX10 has.

Many other manufacturers also make after market suspension components
that might be better or worse than Race Tech's for your purposes.
