They'd say something like "wait until you're old enough and then go
get Charles to apply for a lost title".

Applying for a lost title takes all of about 4 minutes...including the
3 1/2 minutes waiting for them to call your number.

After the title is in-hand, then Charles just needs to sign it over to
you and you'll need to pay all the taxes and transfer fees...which
might come to as much as the motorcycle is actually worth.

Last time I transferred a title (for a motorcycle) it was $13 for title
application, plus tax (if bike was free $10 gift tax), plus $2 for a copy of
last registration, plus tags (about $30), so he's looking at $55-$60 to get
a title. That was before the state budget shortfall, fees may have
    increased.

Yeah, but the problem with this is that Chris isn't in Texas, he's in
Oklahoma so he'll have to pay the taxes and transfer fees in Oklahoma
too. I'm not sure how much all that comes to, but I know Kansas
doesn't do the "gift" calculation but what the book value of the
vehicle is...at least that's what they did when I lived there and
wanted to do the title transfer.
