Pissing about with an ipod Touch. I've managed to get the iPhone apps.
onto it, although this is based on following others' instructions.

I think this makes a lot more sense than an iPhone (or at least it does
for me) since with a suitable 3G phone setup to allow access over the
WLAN connection to it I can pretty much use it anywhere.

As I said about the iPhone, it's a media PDA and not a phone.

Oddly, I've used my own money to buy the ipod touch, which feels kind of
    strange.

I was thinking about one of these for SWMBO. She just cannot get the
hang of the UI for her iPod mini.

But it appears they have gone backwards in storage space. Only 8 gig for
    299 USD FFS.

Well, it's pretty much the same platform and functionality as the
iPhone, well less the phone and possibly the bluetooth (although there
are bluetooth files in the OS so who knows.)

More to the point it's a large, touchscreen display so the price isn't
*that* bad. Well, I'd happily pay 299 but of course I had to pay closer
    to 350 in Europe.

I'm talking about using the application suite (from the iPhone) on the
iPod touch. I need the 3G phone with inbuilt WLAN and internet sharing
or similar to connect the iPod touch to the internet.

Oh, sure. Very similar except the applications are swisher and the
internet access is a lot faster.
