So how much is a plastic bag in these days of huge petroleum product
    prices?

Feature wise it's pretty similar to the TomTom go 700 which costs £550 list
price IIRC so it's not that overpriced for the waterproofing.
There's probably a market for one based on the 300 for the uk only though
    which is only around £300

It's way over the top for it's target market, they won't be selling
    many.

One that is transparent to the motorbiked-gloved finger to the
    touch-sensitive screen? Priceless.

They won't selling *any*. Still vapourware. Misco have none in stock
and no advice on when delivery is due. Break out the smelling salts.

It's not waterproofing that would worry me - it's vibration.

The Garmin units are certified/designed/whatever to withstand and resist
being shaken apart. My first E-Trex still spat the dummy eventually though -
my current one hasn't had the issue yet (RAM mount probably has a lot to do
with this and the use of some bathroom sealant :) )

I'm going to be very interested to see if the Rider holds up to actual real
bike use - from the pictures it just doesn't look sturdy enough but flip
    wibble.

I watched my mate's eTrex go bouncing down a waterfall on Nevis the
other day and still work fine. Convinced me it was tough enough for
    mountain biking anyway.

Only drawback I've now found to it, is it interferes with my cordless
    cycle computer.

I have test-crashed both my eTrex Vista and my SP2610. Both still work
    fine (if a little scuffed).
